Updates/correction main page's subsections.

Post by ProDigit »

I see some of the information on the main page needs some attention, and might be out of date.

Like, the last update from 'Project timeline' is of 2016. Not sure if anything new has happened since?

Older FAH installation instructions, and perhaps some other information has changed over time in installation guides.
Perhaps some updates need to be made about phasing out of folding on older hardware and software (like a timeline for single core CPUs, Windows XP, and 32 bit operating systems to be phased out. One can still do single core projects, but it's end of life has been announced since 2003?).
Aside from minimum system requirements, it would be nice to also have some sort of a system recommendation, based on the kind of research that is currently done and in highest demand. (or, in the minimum specs page a link to a forum thread discussing recommended specs).
Eg: users could opt for a multi core CPU computer, or a GPU instead. Users could choose between 32 bit or 64 bit operating systems? What projects does FAH foresee as the main platform that will help out folding in the next few years?

Links to wiki pages might be no longer active.
Command line instructions for Linux (advanced) need updating (they're referring to older versions of FAH)...

I don't use Mac, so I don't know if there are any updates there.

Perhaps a portion of the news bulletin can be dedicated to newer cores, and their differences (core21) and what it means to the end user in terms of hardware demands, performance improvements, and if it enables certain graphics cards/CPUs speed or efficiency improvements?

"Best Practices FAQ" no longer exists. the link was removed, but the reference is still there.
it can instead link to the bullet points a few sections down.
https://foldingathome.org/support/faq/rules-policies/ (under subsection "What are the specific rules for running Folding@home software?")

The Rules and Policy page point 2.3 refers to this forum thread, which also needs revision (many of the guides in this forum thread no longer are active).

Username search box on this page, no longer is working correctly.

I realize not everyone is reading up on the main page.
It took me about 10 years before I decided to visit it.
