error log, could not connect

Post by MeeLee »

What's happening here?
I know my internet connection is a bit iffy, but it works (now and then).
The WUs are lining up, and aren't being sent!

Your "IFFY" internet connection is failing you. This is not a FAH problem. DNS is not working for you ... which might be the fault of your router or you OS or your ISP.

I would first try opening http://assign1.foldingathome.org in your browser. (It works for me.) Then I'd reboot both your machine and your router. (It might be instructive to do them one-at-a-time and see which one fixes the problem.)

Funny thing is that my browser worked just fine.
I wrote the thread on the same computer as the error.
I know my internet is a bit on off, due to the wifi signal being a bit low, but it should get the connection through.

Anyway, it seems a bug in Ubuntu, that after a few days, I have to reset the PC, to have it connect correctly again.

You might consider adding other servers to whatever DNS sites you are currently using. That might work around the problem by speeding up name resolution. (I'm not sure how long the timeout is before the "temporary failure" error is reported. You might also add some FAH sites to your local "hosts" file -- although you will have to remember to edit them in the event that FAH decides to relocate any of those hosts.
