are GPU WUs universal for NVidia & AMD?

dumb question-

are available GPU work units able to run on any kind of GPU?

i ask because i have 2 GPUs in my machine, one slow and one relatively faster. the NVidia GPU is old and takes about 24h to crunch work units from project 13871. the AMD GPU is much faster and probably takes about 8h to crunch a similar WU. however, my AMD GPU is not receiving any WUs, and the NVidia GPU is busy for the last 2-3 days. a few days back there were definitely WUs available for the AMD GPU.

so i'm wondering if that would be expected given the current oversupply situation, or if something is wrong on my end. i could remove/disable the NVidia GPU but ideally i'd get them both doing something.

Core_21 works on Nvidia since Tesla, and AMD from GCN until RDNA.
Core_22 includes RDNA as well.

So both work on both, but VERY new AMD cards need Core_22.

On Laptops, many more AMD GPUs fail to work, but both have issues.

thanks. that's weird then. the amd card is an RX560 so i guess that's covered by Core_21. dunno why it won't get any WUs. the logs just show the usual "no WUs available for this configuration".

If both cards are in the same machine, it is reportedly difficult to get AMD and Nvidia both working.

Posting the first 200 lings of your log may help someone wiser than myself help.

I think the capabilities of the graphics card might play a factor in which GPU work units it gets. It seems to me there have been many times over the last couple weeks where my 1070Ti and both 1660 Super cards have all been folding while my 2080Ti sits idle; I don't often see the reverse.

jonalt there are species of cards, groups with similar capabilities, so for example the AMD navi or RDNA cards are a different species than AMD GCN cards. (and that species is limited to Core_22)
In the haste to get more work out to volunteers, I suspect that some species are given more work than others. But I am not privy to that and it is possible no one crafting an overall plan, just everyone scrambling to find work for the volunteers.

well for the past couple of days they have both been folding. it's just maybe in the last 12h that the AMD GPU has been sitting idle. so i started wondering if the 2 GPUs were somehow on different work queues, as it were.

They both look good, F@H is just very swamped with folks who want work. (A good problem to have) My two GPUs both have work today for the first time in a week and a half.

OK thanks, sorry to be a pest...i added the slower NVidia card to the machine thinking it was roughly of the same power as the AMD card and was disappointed when it turned out to be kind of a dog; now it seems to be hogging the work... so maybe i'll just disable that slot and see if the AMD card picks up any work.

ah i see, so maybe that's what's going on. i think i did see some errors at some point on the AMD card but i didn't run them down.

well then i guess i should leave the NVidia card online. maybe i just need to go out and find a 10x0 series card but i assume it could take a while to get one given the current circumstances.

When I check to see if a card can fold, I look for OpenCL 1.2 or higher, and Double Precision floating point math.

Core22 definitely works on GCN cards as well, my R9 290x is for example currently crunching WU 11761 without issues. However there seems to be issues with a number of specific WUs that I think have been disabled for GCN-based cards by now (more in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=74&t=32991 )

What do you mean with "includes"? Are you saying Core21 cannot run on RDNA?

Yes. The required changes for RDNA were not retrofitted into Core_21.
