GPU stuck waiting for idle

My GPU is constantly saying it's waiting for idle, even when my PC is sitting on the desktop doing nothing or the screen is asleep. Any ideas how to solve this?

In Windows, the idle state is defined by the start of a screensaver. But most people don't use that any longer.

Setting the screen to just go blank after a period of inactivity will also work for Windows.

If a GPU is configured to run only when idle, the moment you wake the computer up to check on the GPU it's no longer idle. Leave it for a few hours and then check if it has made progress -- or don't configure it to run only when idle.

Two things:

You have power setting set to light which automatically pauses your GPU (which iirc announces itself as waiting to idle)

... and if the machine itself sleeps/hibernates and not just the screen it won't fold then either (but think the above is the issue not this).
