Looking for Ready made Gentoo F@H Optimized

Post by chungenhung »

Hi everyone,
I see that users have posted Gentoo as the most efficient OS to run F@H.
Since I have only touched Linux once or twice in the past, I am having tons of problems working with linux.

Does anyone have a ready made Gentoo optimized for F@H?
It would help if someone can provide the ready made files.
Also, if possible, booting via USB Flash drive or Network boot. As I am running out of hard drives.

Currently I have several Intel Quad cores. Am looking to get more in soon.

It's conceivable that Gentoo is as efficient as some have stated, but by how-much and compared to what, I'm not sure. A lighter weight desktop enviornment can make a noticable difference; my Mac Mini is dual booted with Debian, and I mostly fold while in Debian as I've seen a 2 1/2 minute per frame advantage over folding in OS X. You might want to check out notfred's Folding CD or Folding USB stick here, or if you really want to use Gentoo here's the Gentoo How-To's.

I suspect that this would have been better asked in one of the Linux based categories. As there is no longer a specific "All things Unix" category, I moved it here. If anyone can think of a location more suited, please feel free to let someone know.

I tried the 2007.1 boot CD, but it didn't quite work with SMP, so I switched to Ubuntu 7.10 alternate CD, and I got it installed on a 1GB pendrive
(Kingston). PendriveLinux.com is useful as well.
