Post by SCARFACE12 »

I run F@H 24/7 on my computer and I always have it turned up so that it takes all my cpu usage. I was wondering if thats going to f^ my pc?

Any mechanical/electronic device has a finite lifespan but computers obsolete themselves so rapidly you'll be wanting to upgrade before it wears out.
AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core 4200+ (2.2 GHz)
Intel C2D 6400 (2.13 GHz)
Intel C2D T7800 (2.6 GHz)

Heat is the biggest enemy. With proper cooling, and regular cleaning of the heatsinks, etc., the above statement is very true, even when overclocking and pushing the system that much harder.

Running GPU since it came out, CPU since client version 3.
Folding since Folding began (~2000) and ran Genome@Home for a while too.
Ran Seti@Home prior to that.

But in reality you will probably be a fair bit older when it dies.

I base the above on the fact i have a Intel Pentium 133 still running that is now about 10 years old. I have hard drives that are even older. I even have a working 80286 from back in the day that still happily boots MSDOS 5.

Given decent cooling, your cpu/hard drive/gpu/etc... should last until you next upgrade.
