Issue registering new team.

Post by MarcusHirt »

Hi,

Since Sweden just got really, really cold, I thought I'd help the good old heat pump out by helping you guys. ;)

My problem is that any attempt to register a new team inevitably leads to the following error message:

The database did not respond. . .
Please try again in several minutes
Sorry for the inconvenience!

Is this common? Since I've been getting this message for several days now, I'm wondering if something could be wrong.

Kind regards,
Marcus

Wrote a program that will attempt to register my team every five minutes. I'll let it run for a day or so.

IMHO, running an automated script is definitely not a good idea ...

Just to make sure, are you using this to create your team : http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/createteam.pl ?

That's a good way to get yourself banned from the Stanford Web pages.

Also please Dec 29 entry in the news blog about the work being done on the stats. http://folding.typepad.com/

Well, I let my program run for two days and had no success registering a team. Where do I log a bug?

I managed to register a team from my PS3. The only difference was that I didn't enter a Logo URL. Maybe using an image URL was causing my problems?

Kind regards,

What file type were you trying to use for the logo?

It is a gif image of my family crest (anno 1632). :)

I supplied this URL:
http://hirt.se/images/general/hirt1.gif

The rendering of the team page seems a bit messed up as well, perhaps also due to an image related problem?

Hm. I now changed to a jpg image, very much like the one suggested in the form (http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegrou ... logoML.jpg), but it didn't seem to help. Removing it altogether didn't help either. I guess that kills the image related problem hypothesis. Maybe the team simply hasn't been in existence long enough for the team page to get generated properly. Perhaps somewhere in the dark python innards of the team generation page the equivalence of a nullpointer exception is being thrown? ;)

Did you send result back since you created your team ? If you didn't, that might explain why the page doesn't generate yet.

Looking at my statistics page, it seems I've submitted 19 wu on the newly created team:

http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/mai ... MarcusHirt

Strange. Also, it's not only that the team page (http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/mai ... num=177765) isn't generated - the generation is cut off. The resulting page has no closing HTML tag, so some sort of bug is probably at play.

Sorry for bringing up a post 6 years old, firstly.

However, I got caught with the same problem today, and nothing suggested helped.
In the end, I changed my password from a 16 character all numerical, to an 11 character Alphanumeric+Special.
This change finally allowed me to get my new team up. Sorry if I missed password requirements somewhere, I didn't see anything.

I hope this helps somebody- either users experiencing the issue, or by alerting Administrators.

Good Luck and keep on folding!
