the Work Servers with assignments for older nVidia GPU's went down recently and it appears they may not return.
Could you elaborate on this a bit? What changes can donors make in order to utilize live servers? I'm also a little confused because I have both Fermi (GF114) and Maxwell (GM107) GPUs, so I wouldn't suspect that a server that assigns older GPUs would affect both my GPU slots.

Additionally, I am no longer receiving work on my CPU slot. The full list of servers that my client is unable to reach is: 171.64.65.121, 171.64.65.160, 171.67.108.200 and 171.67.108.201.

It appears when you posted that you had not updated your equipment list, it just listed an older GPU then. That is why your post was merged with this topic. Please post enough of your log to show your current configuration.

As for troubleshooting this problem, have you done any of the steps listed in the topic posted at the top of this sub-forum? It appears something on your end or between you and the servers is blocking you. One of the first steps listed in the topic is to try the address in your browser, you may need to prefix the number addresses with http:// depending on which browser you use. Have you reset any router between your system and the rest of the internet? Also, have you added or updated any anti-malware software recently or changed any firewall settings?

Yes - as stated in my first post, I've been through all the steps in the forum sticky.
It appears something on your end or between you and the servers is blocking you.
I find that hard to believe when the error states that No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. Dialing out does not appear to be the problem.

While it shouldn't matter to the assignment servers, as they should bounce your client to a working server eventually, we might be able to speed up or change that process by removing the client-type setting for the GPUs.

12:55:07:Failed to connect to 171.64.65.160:80: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.
You have four messages with three different causes.

When I open http://171.67.108.201:80 or http://171.67.108.200:8080 in accordance to the sticky, both respond to my browser with an "OK" which probably means your security software or your router is blocking the FAHClient from connecting to those servers.

Empty work server assignment means that that assignment server cannot find any servers that have WUs that meet your requirements. As 7im has suggested, removing client-type=advanced from your GPU slot should help. You may have to let it retry for up to 10 minutes, though that should be really rare.

Server 171.64.65.160:80 no longer exists, so that message is correct, but you would never be directed to that server if any of the previous requests had been fulfilled.

Thanks bruce, wouldn't have figured out the 171.64.65.160 error without your explanation.

I connected my rig over VPN to my work network, and the units came pouring in. This makes me think that something is still wrong with my router even after addressing all the issues in the sticky. I know that it is IPv6 enabled...perhaps there's some mix-up in how my router is handling IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. I'll look into it on my own and consider my issue closed - thanks everyone!

(BTW: there seem to be plenty of WUs meeting the client-type=advanced requirement still available :) )

On my home LAN, I've had troubles with IPV4/IPV6 and have not worked them out yet.

It should be noted that at least for the time-being, FAH still uses IPV4. You'll notice that in my previous post, I asked you to test the connections to IPV4 addresses, not IPV6 addresses. Moreover, they're not DNS names. If your VPN or you work network, itself, don't provide good support for explicit IPV4 addresses you'll probably have the kind of troubles you've reported.

After you've looked into it, please report your findings. We have very few detailed reports on the forum that explain what works and what doesn't work and what might be done to fix that sort of problems.

I have checked that http://171.67.108.11:8080 truly is rejecting connections.
The assignments servers http://171.67.108.201:80 and http://171.64.65.160:80 are responding, however they are sending an empty work assignment.

What should I do?

P.S. Moreover in the Folding@home Client Advanced Control window on the Log tab the Refresh button isn't working. After clicking it the whole log is cleared. I had to copy the logs from the file on disk.

Re: 171.67.108.11 & 171.67.108.21 down

The serverstat page lists these two servers as in "standby" which means they're down intentionally (for maintenance or whatever). That also means that the PI is busy fixing SOMETHING. With all the troubles these servers have had, their workload is being migrated to a new server which means there are lots of unexpected bumps along the road. The new server was off-line (for part of ?) this morning but hopefully all of those unexpected issues will be resolved shortly.

As a temporary measure, open Advanced Control, go to Configure, select slots, double-click GPU, and at the very bottom, ADD the setting name client-type and value advanced.

When you can't refresh the log, the first thing to check is that the green Online indicator is present rather than an orange Connecting. This problem can be caused by a Firewall program, by starting the FAH client in an unexpected way, or by several other relatively unusual circumstances, especially if the client and the control are remotely connected rather than local.

EDIT: See viewtopic.php?f=24&t=26708#p268297

Did that fix your problem?

As it comes to viewing the log I shouldn't have problems you have listed. F@h is installed on the same computer that I use and I don't connect to it through network - it's all local. I also have the green Online indicator. I have installed it using a standard install package and following the guidelines. I have spotted that the log viewer is acting weird. If I click refresh - everything vanishes. When I check some checkboxes in the filter section it starts to show me some logs. However, as I have now three folding units (00, 02, 03), if I check the checkbox near unit it works only with unit 00 and 03. Unit 02 shows nothing (but we know there's something in the log that could be shown).

I think I'll let the case solve itself until next week, but if it won't work then, I'll delete the work folder.

Failed to send results to work server

Post by Etienne_74 »

Hi there,

Several month ago, I asked malwarebytes anti-malware and superantispyware to scan (standard scan, nothing fancy) my computer and I deleted all the "things" found. Since then (well, I guess) My GPU slot doesn't work any more (CPU does).

Here is the log:
As my W7 is french, "Aucune connexion n’a pu être établie car l’ordinateur cible l’a expressément refusée" means "No connection established because target computer explicitly refused it"

This log is some 10 days old but today's log is similar.

I reinstalled the latest version (7.4.4) over the previous one (7.?.?) but it didn't change a thing.
Any suggestion ?

Best regards,
Etienne

The gpu server you were using had a problem and core 11 has been retired. Have a look at this post and the thread in general. You can remove your gpu slot.

Work Unit, Core, Slot, I'm not sure I know exactly what you're talking about. I thought the GPU slot was the ability for FAHClient to give the GPU a WU to process using a core. In my mind, if I remove the GPU slot, my FAHClient will not give the GPU any WU to process anymore. Maybe I'm wrong... Anyway, do you have a "recipe" I can follow to have my GPU working for FAHClient again ?

Thanks,
Etienne
