Serverstats

Post by billford »

At the bottom of serverstats it says:

This script is updated at regular intervals

How often is it supposed to update?

I've been looking at it more often than usual recently to keep an eye on 129.74.246.143; sometimes it seems to update several times an hour, at others several hours can go by.

Looking more closely at the log for that server, there are some quite long gaps in the 10-minute entries. I don't have figures to prove it but have a feeling that they correspond to the long intervals between the serverstats updates.

Whatever the problem is with 129.74.246.143, could it be causing the serverstats script to fail when it tries to interrogate it in one of those gaps?

No. Regular intervals = 15 minutes by default. Some servers update (send) data to the SS page more or less frequently.

That's fair enough, but it's not the main question.

eg it's now ~16:14 (UTC), I've just reloaded serverstats and it says:

Report completed on Tue Nov 25 07:08:58 PST 2014. (Tue Nov 25 15:08:58 UTC 2014.)

The delay was over 2 hours at one point yesterday.

edit- now 17:17 (UTC) and serverstats has yet to update from above.

There have been intermittent failures of the serverstats scripts since late last week. PG is aware of the problem and looking into it.

Interesting that the serverstats script starts having hiccups right around the same time a WS is misbehaving.

There does seem to be a connection between serverstats updating and 129.74.246.143 log entries, but which is cause and which is effect I'm happy to leave to PG to work out :)
