Things will improve when some new projects are released, but 7 is ALWAYS going to be risky. If you leave it at 6, you should get a dependable assignment.

If you change it back to 7, there's no assurance this won't happen again although it may fold happily for months.

Thanks again for the heads up.

All my machines have been folding with the -1 since I loaded the version 7 when it came out... what is that now.. 7.4.4 I think. (I'm not home at the moment.)

I've been folding for a long time and this issue just came up this last week. But, now I know.

The simplest, most reliable way to know when CPU:7 WUs are available is to try the setting occasionally. Identify when a current CPU WU will end on a potential CPU:7 PC while you can try something, then set it to Finish. When it does, set CPU:7 and Fold. If it gets something, job done. If not, revert to CPU:6.

Do not try changing CPU:6 to CPU:7 in the middle of a WU. It will most likely cause the WU to fail.

You may also spot the return of the missing WS and its projects through announcements here, but there are multiple threads about different aspects of the current problems due to its absence, and it is unlikely there will be an announcement in every relevant thread. Also, I believe the server is back already with some limited testing, so it will be tricky (but not impossible) to spot the return on the server stats page.

Tricky to spot - yes, as the replacement server is on a different WS and IP address.

These two servers are Assignment Servers, they just connect your system to Work Servers that have appropriate WU's. What type of WU is your system requesting? Necessary client and system information can be given by posting the first 100 or so lines of your log file.

Your log file shows two separate issues leading to not getting work assigned. The first is that with a CPU setting to get WU's to run on one CPU core, your CPU slot is not receiving assignments due to a current shortage of work for single cores. That can be worked around by either increasing the core count to 2 or by running the NaCl client for Chrome instead.

Second, your older pre-Fermi GPU was originally assigned to projects that used Core_11. Those projects ran out almost one and half years ago. Some pre-Fermi GPU's can process WU's from projects using Core_15. These Core_15 projects are approaching end of life, but until they run out you can opt into processing them. That requires adding two options to the GPU folding slot, client-type set to beta and max-packet-size set to small. These WU's are not actually beta anymore, this combination of flags was selected to indicate that a pre-Fermi or low-end later model GPU should be assigned these older, smaller WU's.
