Can connect fine, but no assingment? Thanks for any information!

That's not enough information to help you. See the link in the signature of this post -- if the problem reoccurs.

"Empty work server assignment" means that no servers could be found that match the requirements of the configuration being reported by your system. If there's only one work server that has WUs that you could process and it runs out or goes off-line, you'll get that message. For common client configurations, WUs can be obtained from many work servers and it's the assignment server's job to pick one -- and neither one of them could find anything for you.

Happened to me again, from researching a bit, seems to be related to the default cpu setting of -1. Changed to 6 for the time being, and everything is a go!!. This was configer folding slot, under slots in configure client!!! Attached is the error, and the continuing log after slots was changed to 6.

Using CPU:-1 on an eight CPU system with one GPU is effectively CPU:7, which is locked out on most projects (because it doesn't work well). CPU:6 is the correct solution for now.

That would explain why two of my systems have been CPU idling for over a week. Since the F@H software itself defaults to 7 this should probably be fixed pronto...

Unfortunately the developers' interpretation of "pronto" is not the same as the users'. Mainly I think because of the extreme amount of development in the queue, and limited resources, and not in any way a reflection on what the developers are doing. Also the problem is more complex than it appears, and any solution is going to need a shedload of testing (even then some clever user will, no doubt, find a perfectly reasonable scenario that breaks something).

Don't expect anything until it arrives.

The problem, as I see it, is that even proteins which fail with, say CPU:7, will work correctly much of the time, so it's impossible to come up with a test scenario that can provide a Yes/No answer to "Is it fixed in V7.x.y?" Even Kasson (probably the world's expert on this GROMACS topic, hedged his bet by using the words "large primes" to imply that there were smaller primes that presumably work dependably but that the dividing line between large and small was nebulous.

I'll be sure to test 7 (and 5) when I get my hands on a proposed new version (whenever it arrives) that is supposed to fix it, knowing full-well that my testing will be inadequate.

You might solicit a list of projects which have been demonstrated to fail on 7 (and on 5?) but no doubt you'll get feedback from somebody that they successfully completed R,C,G on project P with CPU:K

I too am having this problem but only on one computer of the two on my network. Until recently both were working as expected, both with default settings. I then had to reinstall the OS and software on one machine and since then the reinstated machine has exhibited this problem

Having read through this thread I have changed the configuration from -1 to 6 (even though the other machine is working OK on -1) So far things are not looking good. No download percentage showing although no errors in the log, yet.

Success! It seems that the change worked, although I am mystified as to why one machine works with the defaults and the other doesn't.

Welcome to the Forum!

Could you post the log from the machine that worked at default? Either the hardware is different, or one just happened to get an assignment that worked.

When you post a log, use the Full Editor and then use Code tags so it looks nice!
