Failed to get assignment from '171.67.108.45 and 35

Post by Kuno »

Woke up this morning to all my machines give me this error
WARNING:WU00:FS01:Failed to get assignment from '171.64.65.35:80': 10002: Received short response, expected 272 bytes, got 0
16:21:51:ERROR:WU00:FS01:Exception: Could not get an assignment
16:22:12:WU00:FS01:Connecting to 171.67.108.45:80

I have tried changing slots, restarting machines, trying them as cpu only, nothing is working. Is anyone else having the same problem? My units are spread out and on different ISP's so I am clueless as to what is causing the issue.

Welcome to the folding support forum.

Usually the "short response" message indicates that return communication from the servers has been blocked by an ISP, firewall, or anti-malware software. You can test this by going to the addresses in a web browser, you should get a page identifying the address as an Assignment Server with the F@H logo. You should also be able to connect to 171.64.65.35:8080 and 171.67.108.45:8080, if you can not then there is some firewall or proxy already in place.

If you can connect in a browser, but the client can not, then the FAHClient needs to be given the same upload and download permissions as a web browser. How to do this will depend on where the blocking is occurring. Check for recent updates to anti-malware or firewalls for a start.

Interesting. Turns out the parental lock setting on my new router disables FAH completely. That's pretty freaking stupid. The parental lock feature lets me turn off the internet on certain devices at a certain time, and my machines at home are whitelisted to keep internet on, so I have no idea why they would be blocked. I created a rule to disable internet at midnight for the children so that they would be forced to go to sleep instead of staying up all night. I've since disabled the parental lock features on my router and my folding rigs at home are able to connect again. I won't be able to go to the offsite ones till Monday, so I hope those ones will magically start working sometime soon.
