I feel that there's a Murphy's program running that keeps looking for the most inopportune time for everyone to shut down the server. :D

Knows when a weekend comes up and when there is a shortage of IT personnel to fix the problem quickly. :D :D

Where I work, in data processing, there is a big deal made about root cause analysis and fixing underlying problems. Painful as it may be sometimes.

Since the stats has no direct impact on science the resources are set elsewhere. But yeah, an automatic reboot every day once the stats are pushed to the web server might be a low-cost mitigation action.

No you will not lose points, they will be credited to you once the server is fixed and back on line.

Very thanks for the answer Joe! Very inopportune crash... When the points be credited to me, i will reach 100.000 points with my team and they will give me a reward i've been waiting for years... I am very anxious. You have an aproximated idea of the fix hour? In my country it's 02:42 23/01/2017. Thanks again for you help!

My best guess is sometime after 8 AM Stanford time (PST). How much after then I have no idea, that depends on what exactly is worng with the server.

Points not credited, although it seems to fold

Post by MockyLock »

'llo here,
I'll try to summerize efficiently :)
i let my work computer fold for the WE (leaving job friday mid-evening). It returned its last WU Saturday 10h00, then nothing ; although it use to complete many WU a day.
Bakc to home this monday morning, my computer was still running, and folding a fresh WU (a few percent) ; so it means it had completed some WU in the last hours.

I rebooted the computer, and will what happen with that next WU that should be completed in about 2 hours.
Since i rebooted, the last log only show about that last session.

What could make the points not being credited to my account ?
If my computer has trouble with internet connection (it doesn't seem for now), are the completed WU lost ?

lastly, is there an IRC chan for support ?
Thank you very much

What really happens is that the cleaner comes in and unplugs the server so she can plug in her vacuum cleaner. I think it was in the mid-eighties when I was at Datapoint in the UK that this actually happened.

Well happened right when we tried creating a team with a friend, adding up all of our PCs and servers to it! Too bad :p
To me, feels like the stats server is a Windows server :p

'llo here
I'm pretty noob in F@H.
I wanted to apologize to moderators because, as a real noob, i opened a thread about those issues described in this thread :/
And because my thread was not published, i tried a new one... :/ :/
Anyway, i understand now what occur this WE, as i was worried about my stats not growing.
So it's a stat server down, and my points should not be lost.
Thank you very much for your community.
And once again, apologizes for the stupid incommin gthread (Mr Moderator, you can/should delete both of them).

EDIT: (Response from Mod)
1) No need to apologize. I merged your other topic into this one (see a few posts above). You won't do it again.
2) When we find a new post waiting for approval, we often find several. It's easy to approve one and delete the duplicates. Again: you won't do that again.
3) One reason whe have a topic New Donors start here is so it's easy to deal with such issues quickly.
4) IRC would not be an improvement because it's easy to search the forum to see if a question has already been answered.

Something like that actually was happening on a system a co-worker of mine was supporting. According to him a network switch, or maybe it was a hub, was in a closet where the cleaning crew kept a cart which was bumping the switch at about the same time every night and causing the local network to go down. He had to physically go to the location to see what was happening. I was aware of it while it was going on so I know it to be true.

How about in the old tape backup days a guard making his rounds places his magnetic flashlight on the storage cabinet in order to check in at his check in point (which took two hands to do) and erased part of the tapes.
