40.114.52.201 & 13.90.152.57 Killing QRB

These servers are killing QRB's because it takes over 2 hours to send back WU's. I start out with over 80,000 points but by the time it transfers, the point rate is roughly 40,000 due to constant upload failures, timeouts etc. No other servers have this issue. I can sit here and watch the questimate point value drop as each attempt/failure happens, then magically it uploads fine when it gets to about 40k. Seems a bit sketchy that it times out nearly the same number of times, and the point value drops to about the same value every single time I attempt to upload to these two.

I'm also having issue uploading myself, looks like it started and then stopped half way through. I have a feeling maybe the server is just getting swamped or something to that nature? Curious if its not something I'm screwing up.

It is demotivating to see how the previously score points melt away, while the FAH servers do not allow a connection and the upload then drips down over a long period of time. :(
It's not fair. The cause are not the donors, so FAH should change that. Each donor has sufficient upload capacity to upload packages of a few MiB, although hopefully FAH will soon have more resources to solve this bottleneck.
The point system should motivate :D and not create frustration. :(

I've had similar issues with these, though I'm personally not so concerned with the points as long as the results get to where they should eventually (I do appreciate that others are more concerned with points, and that's OK).

But I think it's worth noting that these two are the new Azure cloud servers, so I'm wondering if it's actually a hardware limitation at this point, or if the server side code might have scaling issues. Obviously the Azure instances do likely have some instance limitations, but I could imagine that the server side code was never optimized for these types of loads.

I never cared about points previously, but I recently shut down my Ethereum mining rig and rolled it into the fold for F@H so it's folding proteins and also (and this is the piece that make the points important to me now) earning CureCoins for the fold work i'm doing. I was estimated to make 1.46 coins last night but woke up to .56. After digging through logs, I realized it's because all GPU WU's spun for a total of 9 hours to upload WU's.

It is true that it is more important that the results arrive at all than that the points previously reached do not shrink because the FAH servers cannot receive the data. I am also aware of this.
But that doesn't mean that the points system shouldn't be adapted to the new circumstances anyway.
FAH has certainly considered carefully why it uses such a point system to motivate the participants. And it should stay that way - motivating - and not frustrating.
Hopefully, with the use of FAH and the many people who provide the computing power of their PCs worldwide, Sars-Cov-2 can finally be successfully combated, it is crucial that many supporters continue to fight for the future other hostages of humanity remain on board.

The servers are under very high load and have been for a couple of weeks now. As pointed out in the sticky threads viewtopic.php?f=61&t=33193 and viewtopic.php?f=61&t=32424, there has been about a 15x increase in the number of F@h users over the past month or so. The servers went from distributing 10,000 workunits/hour to 110,000 units/hour as shown here: https://apps.foldingathome.org/serverstats and I saw 160,000 workunits/hour yesterday. They are aware of the issues, the unprecedented load on the bandwidth and disk I/O, and are working to fix it. Please be patient. The workunits will be uploaded in time, and that's the most important thing because the vast majority of them are related to the coronavirus.
F@h is now the top computing platform on the planet and nothing unites people like a dedicated fight against a common enemy. This virus affects all of us. Lets end it together.

Everything you write about the server overload is now known. The really positive cause of these problems is known. I am also patient and move on.
But that's not the issue here. The point is that FAH should not reduce the points previously achieved when calculating the packets because the FAH servers either do not establish a connection or accept the data only very slowly. The packages are not large, only between 20 and 50 MiB. Each of us has enough fast internet connections to transfer such small packets in a few seconds. Hence my request to FAH, stop reducing the points during the transmission!

Sweet, had a feeling it was the massive increase in people. Like others said, not to worried about points, just that the data makes it back.

So why dont you ask the Folding Director to prioritise your points problems over the projects that may help find a cure for the disease killing thousands of people every day? Im sure other folders would support you in that noble quest. ;)

The point is, do you want the FAH project to direct their resources toward upgrading their infrastructure, or do you want them to direct their resources toward upgrading your points? Pretend you are the FAH project's IT director, you have limited staff and only 24 hours in a day, which one is your priority?

You could save yourselves some server bandwidth by decreasing the number of simultaneous connections to a number that is consistent with the available bandwidth. It would also help those of us with measured internet services.

Please refrain from your insinuations. Nobody requests that! It is clear to me that the team has a lot to do and I hope, like everyone else, that the success will also come true.
But it must still be allowed to point out this problem. At some point, when the storm subsides, there should be time to take care of it.
In the meantime, we in the forum should also communicate respectfully with one another in the spirit of good team spirit and not ridicule the concerns of others.
