140.163.4.231 - cannot download

Post by MartinPanda »

Hello,
I have been assigned to workserver 140.163.4.231 , seems my client wanted to start downloading, but nothing happens (I am writing this at 21 PM, last entry in my log is from 10:36 AM)

Code: Select all

...
09:49:27:WU00:FS01:Connecting to 18.218.241.186:80
09:49:27:WARNING:WU00:FS01:Failed to get assignment from '18.218.241.186:80': No WUs available for this configuration
09:49:27:ERROR:WU00:FS01:Exception: Could not get an assignment
10:36:25:WU00:FS01:Connecting to 65.254.110.245:8080
10:36:26:WARNING:WU00:FS01:Failed to get assignment from '65.254.110.245:8080': No WUs available for this configuration
10:36:26:WU00:FS01:Connecting to 18.218.241.186:80
10:36:26:WU00:FS01:Assigned to work server 140.163.4.231
10:36:26:WU00:FS01:Requesting new work unit for slot 01: READY gpu:0:Ellesmere XT [Radeon RX 470/480/570/580] from 140.163.4.231
10:36:26:WU00:FS01:Connecting to 140.163.4.231:8080
10:36:39:WU00:FS01:Downloading 4.52MiB
I see here on forum that others have problems uploading to that server, so is this a problem with that server as well, or should I check something on my side? (I did not change any settings, it was working before)

I would try just quitting the client and starting it again, see if it helps

Hi MartinPanda,

See this: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=33193 - this is happening because the project is currently overwhelmed with new volunteers, and the server infrastructure can't keep up. There have been many donations of new servers lately, and hopefully before long it will be keeping up, but right now we'll have to have some patience. Many of my systems have been idle also, and I've powered some of them off for the time being. When the work is flowing again, they're ready to go.

Any error you see in the log relating to a failed download/upload is likely related to this, as is the "No WUs available for this configuration" message.

You can look at the server status at https://apps.foldingathome.org/serverstats - in the Total Assign Rate at the top, I find I start getting more work when it's up in the 130,000+/hour range. It was there until a few days ago, when server fah1.eastus.cloudapp.azure.com ran out of disk drive and stopped assignments. That server was assigning at 28,000/hour previously.

Stick around for the long haul - once the server issues are resolved, we're going to see FAH smash supercomputing records.

Cheers -
Sam

If that message at 10:36:39 is the last message you see related to the download, then you may have run into a bug in the client. It sometimes fails to detect that a download or upload failed, and doesn't retry it. Once this happens, the folding slot effected by this will not retry on its own, the FAHClient process will need to be restarted. Easiest way to accomplish this is a reboot.
