Failed CPU 7

Post by brendalcampbell »

Hello. What does failed CPU 7 mean on my Mac? I've restarted, nothing is working. Been like this for days.

Thanks everyone!

Stay safe and healthy!

Welcome to the forums Brenda !!

If you could post your log (including top 100 lines or so that show the configuration along with a sample of the error) and someone may be able to assist diagnose/resolve the issue you are having … For guidance on posting logs see viewtopic.php?f=61&t=26036.

I'll guess that your mac has 8 cores (or four cores/8 threads) and is the CPU slot is set up in "auto" configuration (-1) which allocates the CPU slot the total thread count less one for each graphics card … so CPU: 7 would refer to that having an issue - but the log will help get it sorted out.

Welcome to foldingforum.org, brendalcampbell

The software that uses the CPU to process WUs, called Gromacs or FAHCore_a7, divides the WU up into segments and assigns a segment to each CPU so they can process the forces and motions of the atoms in parallel. I does not work when there are 7 segments or other prime numbers. This number varies when you move the slider, but it also can be adjusted with the FAHControl program. You probably have a CPU that supports 8 threads. (if you post the first couple of pages of FAH's log we can confirm that guess.) Moving the Power slider to Full will probably correct this error.
