206.223.170.146 fah1.innovatr.ca is not scoring work units

Post by enocnroll »

I have been noticing a horrible reduction in my daily score for the past several weeks and I finally decided to track it down.

It appears that the server big work units (for me) such 5000 point and 1500 point work units have been uploaded upon completion to 206.223.170.146 (fah1.innovatr.ca). The uploads succeed but the work units are never scored.

When I look at the server status page it lists this server as ASSIGN not as ACCEPT.

So, why are my completed WU's being uploaded to this server? This is mindbogglingly annoying since I am losing ground daily and it is possible that the completed work units are not reaching their intended destination. Furthermore, if the system thinks I am not completing my WU's I ended up being assigned very small jobs (which do end up being scored by different servers).

Does anybody know how I can fix this problem?

Is there a way to block this server from being a destination for uploaded work units?

Can I report this problem to F@H ?

I can't be the only volunteer who is affected. Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forums enocnroll

Assign means Assign and Accept ... Accept means Accept Only... WUs go back to the WS they were issued from (or its associated CS if it has one) ... If your logs are showing Work is uploaded and has a Work Acknowledge message and an Estimated Points then it has been uploaded properly ... Sometimes Servers has stats issues that can take a while to resolve - this takes a back seat to getting science related issues resolved ... They invariably catch up - one suddenly sees a spike of points hit your stats ... You have reported it just by posting here :) ... You can't fix the problem it is server side work ... Blocking a server from uploading WUs to a server will mean they will never go anywhere as that is the server they need to go to ... As I said as long as your are seeing the correct logs messages (feel free to post a section of log for someone to verify) then you will get the points - you simply need to be patient :)

You will see a number of threads in this forum that report issues with stats - always good to report here as a message can be got to the person who will resolve the issues as when time allows ... but these things can take time.

Please note that the current assignment of WUs doesn't perform any of this analysis. You get the WU that best matches the client preferences and hardware configuration.

Yep, so when the points are credited, all those donors will see a massive spike in their points.

I will notify the correct people so let's see what happens :)

Hi Neil-B,

Thanks for welcoming me. I am generally familiar with the SOP for these servers, but I have never seen a server be weeks behind in crediting so many work units. I have personally seen one or two WU's not be credited and show up later. The current circumstance is just exorbitant. So, I guess this is my PSA for 206.223.170.146 (fah1.innovatr.ca).

During the March/April surge one of the servers was playing up and with the focus on expanding infrastructure I had a blacklog of over a hundred WUs - having them all arrive in one lump was actually quite nice :) ... a Week or two is nothing "abnormal" - as there are a number of ways this can sometimes happen and some of these take more resolving than others - but in my experience they have always turned up (and I do have a record of every WU my kit has ever worked on).

Hey, 10 work units just came for about 10,000 points. It's a good start. Maybe somebody was listening. :)

By the way, how do you track your work units? I was really just eyeballing them and I have a general idea of what my throughput should be. Then I simply spotted a pattern. I have no idea how to log my individual work units. I do have a script for backing up in progress WU's and restoring them if I have to reboot my machine.

I personally use HFM.NET (https://github.com/harlam357/hfm-net) which works natively on Windows and in Wine in Linux.

Others may use grep to record information from the log files directly.

Thanks, PantherX! Great to know that posting here helps. I seem to have recovered all my lost points - something like 60,000 in total. My 24 hr average is back up where it belongs. :-D

I will check on the Github project you sent. That looks very useful. Cheers!

@enocnroll In answer to your question I just capture all my logs and parse them out into a spreadsheet which generates the link to WU status for each WU processed .. a quick copy and paste (cause I haven't bothered scripting it yet) and I have a pretty complete/detailed history of my kits folding :) ... tolls like hfm do this type of thing much more gracefully and add other features - but I am just a spreadsheet fan :)
