Assignment Server issues

Post by Shelnutt2 »

Ok, I'm posting here because this is not a specific client issue. I've tried 3 different clients. It's a network issue, and no one at ocforums (Team 32) or when I posted here a while ago seems to be able to figure it out. I know it's probably on my end as no one else is having this issue, but it's an issue connecting to the server so I'm posting here.

Basically I can not connect to the assign servers to verify my ID. I have tried the linux v6 client, with many different flags. I have tried a beta version of the SMP client for linux. I have tried the old 5.04 client in windows, and then again trying it in Linux via wine. I am getting the same problem everytime.

I don't have any firewalls on the computer in linux or windows. My connection is earthlink cable via brighthouse. I have a router with dd-wrt on it. Everything worked back in May, which was the last time I folded due to hardware issues and then this problem. I have tried using opendns instead of earthlink's dns for no change. The thing is though that I can access the assignment servers in firefox, i.e. and Konquer. I get the "ok" when I go to http://assign.stanford.edu:8080 and http://assign2.stanford.edu:80 .

Here, are the post I've made before:

Are you able to open http://assign.stanford.edu:8080 and/or http://assign2.stanford.edu ? If you can and the FAH client cannot connect, it is certainly a security setting on that machine. What anti-spyware software do you have?

Yes I can access those and I get the "ok". In linux (gentoo) I don't use any anti-spyware or antivirus program. No firewall.

In Windows I use avg free anti-virus and spybot S&D for anti-spy/ad ware (don't use teatimer though). No firewall, and windows firewall is disabled.

Did you try upgrading your client? I see you're using an old 5.04 client.

yes I've also tried the linux v6 client. That was were I discovered the problem. I only just tried the old 5.04 client because it's easy to test in both windows and linux via wine. It should still work fine it's on the fah website.

Code: Select all

    shelnutt@gentoo:~/folding/smp$ ./fah6 -smp -verbosity 9 -forceasm

Note: Please read the license agreement (fah6 -license). Further
use of this software requires that you have read and accepted this agreement.

Mm, just checking. :) Well I'm a bit stumped really. The only thing I can think of is to try to run as root, with "sudo". Shouldn't be necessary but can you try that just to rule that out?

Well good idea, but running as root had no effect. Same error.

It sounds just weird. If you can connect via your browser, I can't for the life in me see how the client would not be able to, unless it's blocked by a firewall - that you say you aren't running in the first place.

You say you have a router that you connect through? Is it possible to bypass that just for testing, e.g. connect the cable directly to your machine? Something tells me that'll work.
