Project: 13794 (Run 13, Clone 15, Gen 4)

Hello,

The FAH client appears to be having trouble completing this run of Project 13794. It is stopped at 99 percent completion. In the log files, there appeared that some error occurred before normal completion. I am attaching them, and a screen shot of the client. The screen shot was captured over an hour ago, since then there has been no change with Project 13794. Newer Project 14188 is now up to 22.5 percent complete.

Sorry my "signature" needs to be updated, am now in the Pande Team. Do not see a way to save a draft (only Preview and Submit); will work on that later...

As best as I can tell from the log, your Project 13794 WU reached 99% and that caused the download of the next WU. Shortly after the WU crashed for some reason, and with 2 WU's in the queue the slot started the new WU instead of completing the previous one. So the older one is sitting in the queue waiting to restart from its last checkpoint before the crash.

I am not sure how to get the client to return to the nearly complete WU without first finishing the one it is currently processing. Safest might be to set the processing to Finish, you might have to use Finish a second time after the currently processing WU is done.

You did not provide the beginning of the log file, which version of the folding client are you running? The stalled error could be an issue with an older version, the detection code had some problems in earlier versions that are thought to have been corrected.

Whenever there are two WUs enqueued on a single slot, and something interrupts the the active WU, there's the potential for the problem Joe_H has described. I know of no method to manually alter the sequence in which the WUs will be processed.

Personally, I have configured my system for "next-unit-percentage" = "100" which essentially avoid the potential issue. With my internet connection, the processing gap between one WU and the next one is so small that I don't consider downloading the new WU important. [In the days of dial-up-modems, it was.]

A follow up...

Seems this morning around 19/0807Z, this client Version 7.5.1 (after processing Project 14188 to 70 percent) paused that job, and reloaded Project 13794. Backed it to 97 percent, then finished it in less than 25 minutes at 19/0831Z. Earned 4927 points (would it have been more if it completed on time earlier?). The current job 14188 is back to processing, estimated it will finish in another 6 hours or around 1915Z. The "top" of the log had scrolled off of the page, as this PC has been running continuously over the past few week. This PC is coming back from a major failure (think registry), had to do a install. I have an older copy from a previous log that started from the top - from a week or so ago..

Thanks bruce and Joe_H for your advice. Now am curious from bruce, how does one set the parameters: "next-unit-percentage" = "100"? I suppose it is in the expert settings? See the jobs are in the multi-megabyte size range, a preload in those pre-wideband days was needed.

Lastly, cannot properly set my signature? It shows up at least on my end and from another computer as:

Without putting the code/code in, the image actually shows up. It was prompting "It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image." Am I allowed to include something like width="468" height="60" along with an href to get over this error? Tried it with and without the URL without much success.

Am posting it right below my name and it works as it should (or used to from Control Panel and Preferences).

This parameter can either be added to the slot options, and will only be in effect for that slot, or added to the expert settings and apply to all folding slots. Since you have folding set up as a service, you can only do CPU folding and have a single slot, it does not matter which.

As for your signature, you have entered it incorrectly for use in a sig. Please see the directions on the EOC site - https://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/?nav=IMAGES. For mine I followed the steps for "Adding Your Stats To A Forum Signature" and used the "Without a hyperlink" option.

A follow up...

Seems this morning around 19/0807Z, this client Version 7.5.1 (after processing Project 14188 to 70 percent) paused that job, and reloaded Project 13794. Backed it to 97 percent, then finished it in less than 25 minutes at 19/0831Z. Earned 4927 points (would it have been more if it completed on time earlier?). The current job 14188 is back to processing, estimated it will finish in another 6 hours or around 1915Z. The "top" of the log had scrolled off of the page, as this PC has been running continuously over the past few week. This PC is coming back from a major failure (think registry), had to do a install. I have an older copy from a previous log that started from the top - from a week or so ago.

I don't understand why the client decided to switch WU, but it's probably good that it did. Finishing the last 3% of the Project 13794 before embarking on a full WU was not in the best interest of either FAH or your points but as I said earlier, I don't understand why it did that but finishing a 25 minute job before spending another 6 hours on 14188 was a good choice.

Yes, finishing a job earlier rather than later will earn more points.

After the new WU was downloaded,we can compare two possibilities. After the error occurred, it would have been desirable for FAH to resume work on the earlier WU and spend the 25 minutes to finish it before starting the newly downloaded WU. On the other hand, if we assume that no such error occurred, the newly downloaded WU would have waited about 10m12s (to finish the first WU from 99% to 100%) which would certainly been reasonable if the download had taken a number of minutes.

Assuming you do set next-unit-percentage to 100 (per Joe_H's instructions) the 7 second download might have started (below) at 08:31:55 and still completed only a few seconds after it was needed at 08:31:57

Thanks again to bruce and Joe_H for your helpful advice. The suggestion of default setting download to 100 seems like a good call. A mention should be noted that if you are on a slow Internet connection, do not use the new default if you go that way in a future FAH release.

Am still having trouble with my signature (all I did was change my ID number) and it has not been happy. I will try to work with this more in a couple of days. Am working nights at the moment and do not have time to work with this like I want to.
