Project: 7640 (Run 181, Clone 0, Gen 6) slow?

Post by Fritschenstien »

This is my first post (long time folder), I just bought the GTX 560 Ti last night and i love it already. It ran through three 8033 units extremely fast. But I'm currently running Project: 7640 (Run 181, Clone 0, Gen 6) WU and its not going over 80% GPU usage with a time of 10 minutes and 25 secs a step. The same type of WU did the same on my old GT 430. Never goes past 80%. No worries.

Hello Fritschenstien, welcome to the forum.

Nope, not slow, just huge. See several other existing topics on this...

You probably can't fix this because throughput is being limited by something OTHER THAN the GPU. You can make it worse if your PCIe connection is running at less that the maximum possible rate or if you have intentionally downclocked the GPU's memory? (With smaller WUs, the GPU's memory speed didn't matter so you could save power/heat by slowing the memory down.)

I'm not too worried with the GPU only reaching 80% as it surpasses the low-end hardware I used to run. It also keeps the heat production down considerably. I haven't down-clocked anything, the PNY GTX 560 Ti XLR8 is factory overclocked, but i have down-clocked the mem before on my old GT 430. With that I noticed that a little less MHz never hurt, but taking it way down impacted the TPF. Currently the 1GB of DDR5 is @2100 MHz, 256Bit @134.4 GB/s, 612MB used with a 15% mem controller load. I know that the main-board I'm using does not support the PCI-e 2.0 rate. Although that never affected the percentage of GPU utilization before, I'm aware that the 7641 unit contains 21443 atoms making it ten times the size of the 7620-22 units. I agree that it could be the absence of PCI-e 2.0 bandwidth. I'm going to be replacing this main-board soon anyways because it is the last remnant of a former e machine. Thanks for the help!

UPDATE! I think the missing 20% of GPU usage is being compensated for by the CPU. Under the task manager it shows anywhere between 8%-16% usage by the Fahcore 15. Anyways, none of this concerns me as it all seems fairly trivial. Fold on!
