P. 7011 (2, 95, 79) going ridiculously slow

Post by Nantes »

I have been folding on a Core i5 2500k @ 4.6 GHz for months now. I usually get around 15k PPD from the smp 4 slot, but for this project I noticed I was getting only 5k. Core Temp displays that the processor is drawing 75 Watts instead of the usual 85 Watts or so, and temps are also lower (around 67 C instead of the usual ~80). All cores are at 100% however and the clock is still at 4.6 GHz. I've restarted the machine twice but it didn't fix the problem. I ran Prime95 and it began drawing 95 Watts which is usual behavior for the stress test, so the processor appears to be fine.

Right now the smp 4 slot has a PPD of 176 (!!!) rather than the previous 5k, and the ETA is 3.64 days, whereas the usual WU takes a few hours normally.

It appears to me this WU is unable to use the processor correctly.

I left the machine folding overnight and when I woke up the WU had finished, my PPD is now back to usual and the temps and power drawing are back to normal too. It was most definitely the WU's fault.
