Project: 7017 (Run 2, Clone 369, Gen 70)

I have folded two 7017s in the past on my laptop and have obtained times per frame in the range of 18-19 minutes. I am currently folding this 7017 and time per frame is over 46 minutes. Indeed, another old PC (circa 2005) has folded two 7017s in about 35 minutes, consistent with my former 7017 results on my laptop. Is this particular 7017 project intended to be so different from previous ones that this makes sense?

I have rebooted my laptop to rule out something slowing folding this project down with no change in time per frame. Has anyone else experienced this?

BTW, the other 7017s took about 1.5 days to fold on the laptop; this one will take 3.5 days. As a result, projected PPD are among the lowest for any project I will have received in over six months. I intend to follow through folding this WU; however, I'd like someone affiliated with this WU to explain what might have changed with 7017, the last time I folded it. Thanks in advance.

To my knowledge, there has never been a case of WUs from the same project that were intended to run at measurably different speeds.

The actual speed that a WU runs depends on a number of factors. (1) Obviously if your hardware changes or if the WU has to share resources with some other processes on your machine, there will be variations. (2) Even with the same number of atoms in a protein, there are minor variations due to the relative positions of those atoms. (Search this forum for the words "folding event") (3) Recently there was some kind of error on one particular server [Not the same project; not the same FahCore; Not the same server] where WUs suddently had the wrong number of steps. I have no reason to believe that's happening to you but if you still have the log files, check the total number of steps in the WUs. That number should always be constant.

There was also a problem detected with some WU's from Projects 7600, 7610 and 7611 where they would also run abnormally long compared to others. The project leader for that group, tjlane, posted here viewtopic.php?f=19&t=20976#p210709 on that. There are some other posts about that as well. I don't know if the same problem as that is showing up with your 7017, but it does use the same A4 core to process.

By the way, only Project 7017, Run 1, Clone 580, Gen 7 seems to be credited to DrBB1. the other two were completed by someone else.

I don't have old log files, so I can't answer your first question. Both were folded late 2011/early 2012.

By the way, only Project 7017, Run 1, Clone 580, Gen 7 seems to be credited to DrBB1. the other two were completed by someone else.

My bad: Should have been (1,30,22). Also, (2,369,70) is the WU currently folding--in progress (89% complete; ETA about 9 hours).

Yes, you received credit for P7017 R1 C30 G22 though there's some strange annotation in the file. According to the server, it took you 1.76 days to complete the WU.

I don't know what that annotation is about. HFM.NET shows that from download to completion was 1 day, 7 hours, 2 minutes. bruce-- is the annotation automated, or is this something added to the file manually?

Does this combination (annotation and extended folding time) reflect other unpublished issues with Project 7017 suggesting instability--or am I just that lucky guy to have two coincidences happen on different runs of the same project? [No need to answer....]

BTW: Run 2, Clone 369, Gen 70 is now complete. TPF: 47.22 min. Am now folding Project 7005 at a TPF of about 19 min, comparable to the 18 min. I have seen with another 7005 I have folded on this CPU. Presumably this suggests a problem with the 7017 gen I just completed, or (less likely) a unique interaction between the gen and my CPU, since things seem now to be stable on my end.

My i7-3930K@4.1GHz got a P7017 (1, 199, 24) and runs it with PPD 7300 (TPF 5:30 min).
That is far below normal PPD (22000-28000) of the SMP client.

Hi Heiko-- When I posted this problem in June, I was running the V6, CPU client. I have since updated to V7, and my processing intensity and PPD have increased immensely. I think this was either a unique case or--though I don't know if this turned out to be the issue--a problem with Gen 70. Also, my equipment is older and slower than yours, anyway, so I would guess that if I were to get a 7017 again--all things being equal--I would improve my performance, but not to the extent that you have achieved.
