What's with project 70XX ????

Hi Folks:

Currently running 7007 (2, 428, 93) and getting 15+ min frames.

WU's of the same base credit usually run at ~5-6 min frames on this machine. Nothing else is running and clockspeed is normal, BUT .... temps are down 5-6 C while still reporting 100% CPU usage.

Seems to be progressing fine at a very slooowww pace. Any ideas?

Project 7007 is for FahCore_a4. That core can run with one or more CPU-cores.

If you post the first couple of pages of the log, showing the client initialization plus the part where it starts folding 7007 we can probably help. If it's not included in that part of the post, fill in your hardware profile so we can assess what might be happening.

Which CPU you have? Do you also fold with a GPU? Do you run some other DC project with FAH?

It's running on an I5-2450M @ 2.9 GHz running SMP only. F@H only.

Finished that POS WU and immediately picked up another that runs only slightly faster. What the heck is going on with these 7 series wu's? Did they even bother benching them?

PPD is about 1/3 of normal for this machine.

Until somebody answers the question asked above about whehter 10000000 steps is right or wrong, we can't answer your basic question. If it was benchmarked with a different number of steps and that number has changed, there's an obvious answer to your question -- but then the question becomes how did it get changed. If it has always been 10000000 steps, then there was a problem with the benchmarking. I don't know enough to answer either set of questions.

Thanks Bruce....I didn't realize we were in a holding pattern.

I just noticed that another machine has picked up 7017(1,296,87) also with 10000000 steps and also running rather high TPF. That machine is also running a Fermi GPU that was recently "updated" to the 2.25 client. Starting to feel a bit stuck in the muck here!

Here's a bit of context. The 2450M machine finshed the 7020(3,74,98) with ten million steps after a day or so for ~1698 points. It then picked up 7647(222,1,58) with a base credit of 2250 points and 2.5 million steps with 37-40 min frames for an estimated ~4500 ppd. In the past these 2250 point wu's usually get more like 4000 ppd on this machine due to interruptions which is fine as it's a general use machine.

edit: Temps are back up to normal on this 7647 wu. The 7020 just completed was apparently credited about 1.1 times more than the original estimate. Still low performance for this system.

My experience with these 600 base point 70xx WUs is that one in ten or one in twenty of them will fold really slow.
Since they have a high PPD with the majority of them, the slow ones dont bother me to much. If you care about points, cross your fingers and dont take it personal.

@Mactin thanks for that. I too have run many of these wu's with good performance. I report the bad ones in the hope that the dev's will be able to improve the project.

Currently running 7020(3,130,84) and it has 10 million steps but is doing around 4.5 min per frame. When it finishes I'll see what it compresses like. The 7647 that just completed did not seem to compress very much.

viewtopic.php?f=19&t=22869 same project, same type of problem, different RCG. Fortunately, they seem to be few & far between. In the past 3 months I've had a total of 3 of them. For now, just have to live through them & report them... hopefully the programmers will eventually figure out what the problem is & fix it.
