Project 14909

Post by 5-MeO-DMT »

14909 (492, 5, 173) 2.00 days 43900
Work Unit (PRCG) Work Unit (ETA) Estimated Points

I'm contributing to Project 14909

COVID-19 PROJECT

GPU:1:0 TU104M (GEFORCE RTX)
0.00%
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Before this project started I had updated to the latest drivers and was running GPU projects smoothly. This project has been running for well over 2 days. I have tried stop folding, exiting the folding app, changed the research, rebooted my pc.

I haven't tried reinstalling folding@home becauase I'm unsure what would happen with my stats. Does it just continue with the same username/team? If I join a team with the username would I loose my stats. Do I just type the same username to resume my points earned?

What do you think this problem relates too?
How do I tell folding@home to cancel this project and search for another?

Welcome to foldingforum.

When FAH is installed, it analyzes your hardware and then assigns work that you can process. Ordinarily it will process work any time your computer is running. Depeding on the capability of your hardware, as single assignment may require few or many hours (or even days) to complete. When you complete an assignment, the results will be uploaded and a new assignment will be issued.

Ordinarily, if you reinstall it will retain your name, team, and history unless you intentionally delete it. The history of completed work will always be retained.

The identification of your GPU as GPU:1:0 TU104M (GEFORCE RTX) looks strange. It would be very helpful if you posted the first few pages of FAH's log. See the instructions below. I suspect the drivers have not been properly installed.

This is what I see. Note: the middle one is not suppose to be working. They are the intel graphics drivers I have to install on my laptop. The one on the right is the nvidia gpu. I updated to the latest driver version in windows update, nvidia command center (running 457.51). I have also tried reinstalling and telling the app in the advance control panel to finish, which did not work.

Interiour Gateway Protocol?

I'm running on wifi. My internet drivers were updated to the latest version. And yes then I restarted. I can connect to the internet just fine, and the CPU programs works fine. I've also run other gpu projects with ease with no problems. But this specific one, I can't even cancel it for some strange reason. And when I reinstall it's always the exact same projects I was running before, doesn't change.

Btw for the gui this is what it's suppose to say. I got this in the advance control.

Some sources have recently started referring to integrated GPUs (iGPU) as IGP or Integrated Graphics Processor. Not a good choice in my opinion for the reason you show, IGP already had a computer related usage. I stick with iGPU to keep the meaning clear. AMD APUs and most Intel processors are examples of processors that include an iGPU.

Support for using Intel iGPUs was recently added to the client and is being officially supported on an open Beta status currently for Intel Gen9 iGPUs. As long as drivers are installed and the iGPU enabled, the client will detect the iGPU and by default create a disabled slot. Unless you want to fold on that iGPU you should not need to do anything further with it.

Is the nVidia GPU installed internally in the laptop or external through an eGPU setup? If internally, then your laptop is probably using nVidia's Optimus technology to switch between the iGPU and the RTX 2080 mobile chip. People have reported problems with the Optimus system and folding in the past. Sometimes they have needed to disable to iGPU or set the laptop to always use the nVidia GPU to get F@h to work properly on a GPU WU.

Here are some additional details. It's an ASUS ROG Strix Gaming Notebook. It has a core i9-10980HK

I would guess it's a dedicated gpu attached to the motherboard (dedicated 8gb), but has shared graphics driver with the core i9 with 8gb of memory for it which is a combined shared memory total of 16gb. I am guessing this is something to do with my monitor because it's a 300hz display.

I'll post some more pics so you can see the details between the intel UHD and the nvidia 2080 Super.

I rebooted into the bios, couldn't see any options that were relevant to the graphics driver. Anyways when I booted back in another project took over, I guess I have to reboot after selecting finishing.

With a properly running slot selecting finish will mean that the current wu will complete than no new WU will download and the slot will be paused .. no reboot required .. what probably happened when you rebooted was the client dumped the stalled wu for some reason and you got a new one downloaded that works fine
