Hello,
on https://foldingforum.org, Google Chrome translator does not work:
Google Error

Sorry, this URL is invalid
http://foldingforum.org:443/viewforum.php?f=27

Please choose from the following:

Go back to the previous page
Back to Translate
See original page
For me (I assume and for other members) is sometimes easier.

Thanks

http://foldingforum.org:443/viewforum.php?f=27 is invalid because all forum links must now start with https

I just downloaded Chromium Canary and was able to translate any forum page by right-clicking on the page and selecting Translate.

Yes, I saw the difference in http/https. It might be time to get indexed by Google Bot, or something else?

PS: this is a topic for suggestions. If you want move my question in a new topic, sorry about that.

Reindexing? Not something that has to be requested. It happens automatically, like right as this very instant (as seen on the forum front page...).

I'm able to follow the old FF links just fine, thought it might just be my computer/DNS. Can anyone else? For example, see the Announcements page: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=14714&p=248592#p244414 and the links to the previous topics.

I'd hate to see the old links go away too. We killed all the incoming links to FAH documentation when the site moved, the blog is moving as well so those links will have to be updated, it would be a shame if the old FF links died too.

It took some extra work, but now thanks to uncle_fungus, there are now redirection links from the old IP address to the new secure IP address.

All the old links both outside and inside the forum should still work as I've set up a blanket redirect from http to https. In some cases the forum does this for you (like if you can only see viewtopic.php?xxxx in the post body) and will automatically populate the rest for you. If the whole URL is present, then server will just silently redirect to the secure url.

There may still be a few more changes to make, but I will make sure that nothing that does work at the moment breaks.

Using Firefox 23.0.1 if I click on http://foldingforum.org:443/viewforum.php?f=27 I get:

Code: Select all

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">
<html><head>
<title>302 Found</title>
</head><body>
<h1>Found</h1>
<p>The document has moved <a href="https://foldingforum.org/400.shtml">here</a>.</p>
<hr>
<address>Apache/2.2.23 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.23 OpenSSL/1.0.0-fips mod_bwlimited/1.4 mod_fcgid/2.3.6 Server at foldingforum.org Port 443</address>
</body></html>
Changing http to https does result in the correct forum page.

I also tried the same link using Chromium and it first showed:

Code: Select all

Found

The document has moved here.

Apache/2.2.23 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.23 OpenSSL/1.0.0-fips mod_bwlimited/1.4 mod_fcgid/2.3.6 Server at foldingforum.org Port 443
When I clicked on here this is what I see:

Code: Select all

Not Found

The requested URL /400.shtml was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Apache/2.2.23 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.23 OpenSSL/1.0.0-fips mod_bwlimited/1.4 mod_fcgid/2.3.6 Server at foldingforum.org Port 443

Can you point me to a page where this link appears?

Sorry, but I cannot. I'm just going by the post at: viewtopic.php?p=249196#p249196 which is what started this conversation.

Not sure if it's useful but w3 validator shows these two warnings for the resulting page that the http link produces:

Code: Select all

The following notes and warnings highlight missing or conflicting information which caused the validator to perform some guesswork prior to validation, or other things affecting the output below. If the guess or fallback is incorrect, it could make validation results entirely incoherent. It is highly recommended to check these potential issues, and, if necessary, fix them and re-validate the document.

Info No Character encoding declared at document level

No character encoding information was found within the document, either in an HTML meta element or an XML declaration. It is often recommended to declare the character encoding in the document itself, especially if there is a chance that the document will be read from or saved to disk, CD, etc.

See this tutorial on character encoding for techniques and explanations.

Info Using Direct Input mode: UTF-8 character encoding assumed

Unlike the “by URI” and “by File Upload” modes, the “Direct Input” mode of the validator provides validated content in the form of characters pasted or typed in the validator's form field. This will automatically make the data UTF-8, and therefore the validator does not need to determine the character encoding of your document, and will ignore any charset information specified.

If you notice a discrepancy in detected character encoding between the “Direct Input” mode and other validator modes, this is likely to be the reason. It is neither a bug in the validator, nor in your document.

Ok, the issue here is actually that google translate doesn't support https web pages, hence the munged address that doesn't work. We will try and find a solution.

Bug report: phpBB search function.

If I search for multiple words (like "stats server") it apparently counts a word-hit total, finding results that do not have both words. (In this case, posts with two or three occurrences of "server" but with no "stats" are listed.)

The default search uses or not and. If you require the word, you need to preface the word with +
