Folding@home Support forum header link to new Server Status

Post by GreyWhiskers »

Short request.

PG rolled out its new server stats page, Server Status for Folding@home. The link in the blue banner at the top of the Folding@home Support forum still links to the old server stats page, http://fah-web.stanford.edu/serverstat.html.

PG even indicates on its stats page, http://folding.stanford.edu/stats.html, that this old link is to be "depreciated".

Any chance of getting the forum banner link fixed? Thanks.

I think the post on folding.typepad.com seemed to imply that new serverstats page will be moved to the regular address (http://fah-web.stanford.edu/serverstat.html) in a couple of months. However, I agree that this should be taken care of for the time being. Then we can change it back to the regular address once the new serverstats page is there.

Or we can just leave it alone and it will fix itself when that new page is ready.

It's not like the existing page is broken. ;)

The update interval is allot lower though, the request has some merit.

Edit:

To clarify, people use the forums to check if the server issues they are experiencing are known or should be reported, the server status page is an important aid in that decision. It doesn't help if the server stats linked on top of the forums are not as up to date as possible.

GreyWhiskers, I think it's a good suggestion, but I'm not sure the new page is ready for production level traffic. The new page is definitely an improvement. But if that new page goes offline while they continue to make improvements and work out all the kinks, I'm not sure that's the page we want to link to from this forum yet. Old and working is better than new and intermittent.

Anyone had any problems with the new page? If not, then yes, make the switch. I just wouldn't want to trouble the Forum Admins to make this change twice if the page wasn't ready. Make an informed choice, not just a choice. ;)

I've reported a bug or two in the BETA version of serverstat. The Pande Group will release it when they feel it's ready.

I think we need to remember that the serverstat is intended primarily for PG, not for donors. Donors are certainly welcome to use either one, but we can't manage the servers themselves nor do we understand a lot of data that's presented.

The OP's suggestion can stand by itself and we don't really need to discuss it, one way or another. Everything after that request is off-topic.
