Maybe a global server issue if they don't use a dedicated server ;)

Hmm, there's something a little wrong with the server. I got the same errors as you this morning, although I'm pretty sure it was because the host was restarting the database server, as I couldn't get to the databases from the host control panel either.

It maybe just my location, but the site seems to be running slower than usual at the moment too.

It's still working fine here :)

Just a little question, not related to the issues here but important for performance : do you have gzip compression enabled :?:

No since that increases server and client-side load, although it would decrease the bandwidth used, I'd prefer less load on the server.

Can gzip be a user-configuration setting?

Does phpbb3 have a print view mode that removes all icons and basically allows modem users to retain access without downloading masses of data. Basically a text only version of the forum.

That could be the way around the modem issue, but if it doesnt exist also increase UF's workload (which shouldnt happen).

Maybe there is a text mode theme for phpbb available, that would allow modem users to bypass downloading all the icons and other images on the site. That should also as a side effect cut down on data transfers and hopefully server loads.

Something like this maybe?
