Request for Sig Image Dimensions Increase

Post by EvilAlchemist »

Over at Hardfolding.com, we have started using a new style of signuatures.

Here is the old one: 210 x 45

Image

New Style: 283 x 82

Image

Currently the limit is set to 60 pixels.
Is there any way that can be increased to 82 to allow our new signatures to be used?
The current work around is to just paste them into the body of the post.

Thanks

I agree, it would be nice if we can use the new style but the height is limiting us :(

While the images may look pretty, they have the effect of slowing everyone's reading by expanding the wasted vertical real estate on the screen for those who are reading the messages. Since your new graphic wastes a lot of vertical space with empty gray/white space, I can't see any reason to change the limits to accommodate it.

From a personal perspective (not a Mod comment), a lot of forums use the 60 pixel limit. Maybe the new designs should have taken that in to consideration? Functionality over form? ;)

As a Mod, I remind everyone that the Folding forum is Team agnostic. Team information and recruiting is not allowed in posts, but the forum does accommodate team info when unobtrusively added in signatures, etc. I guess the forum Admins and Owner will have to decide if the forum will be more accommodating or not, and what impact that may have on the performance of the forum.

If I used plain text, you can make you signature very very long.
I got signature up to 25 lines of text last night, so "wasted vertical real estate" can already be abused if done right.
I got tired of typing but actaully, you could make a sig *a lot* of text lines long if you really wanted to with current code.
(I was going to leave my test sig on, but I did not want to show how i did it , or look like i was trying to prove any kind if point with it)

7im, i do understant you comments 100%.
From a preformance standpoint, I don't think it will affect anything as many other users already have EOC stats in their sigs.
I don't think that a 22 pixel increase is a lot to ask, but alas i don't have the final say in this.

What about removing the space between the two blue boxes in your new signature ? It's a kind of waste of vertical space.

This should allow a 80 pixels max height, which is the size of my avatar (80*80) ... and I think it's still a reasonable size.

I could talk with the guy in charge of stats and badges to reduce the height to get under the 80 pixels. I think a sig limit of 80 pixels is ok.

7im, if you believe in keeping the forum team agnostic, we should also ban EOC banners as well. The [H] banners is also team agnostic in the sense that it's not just our team but everyone's else who can get those banners.

Did you look at the banner of 7im above ? The only requirement is just to register to the site, which is not the same as registering to the forum.

Not my buisiness but I think both are fine. EOC abit more fine since it does not link to EOC in any way, the team reference is taken from the team number. With [H] you got a team reference with the logo as I see it.

If I had to choose, it would be EOC as it's more 'agnostic'.

I think we have strayed from there request ... it is not which stats you like the best.

It is a a request to increase the pixel limit for the forum signuature.

Yep, I saw that... Can you show me mine?

I also noticed that it linked back to » http://www.hardfolding.com/fh_stats/?pz ... 4&id=30846 , which EOC's does not do.

Edit:

Also, this kinda puts the pinch on things.
Forum Badge (Type 2)
Not for use on the [H]ard|Forum

Forum Badge (Type 3b)
Not for use on the [H]ard|Forum

Forum Badge (Type 3c)
Not for use on the [H]ard|Forum
Note that all of those versions that show the donors team name, are designated "Not for use on the [H]ard|Forum."

So, why do you propose that we allow them here, when you don't allow use of them on your own forum?

For me the logo kind of puts it off don't you agree a bit? I can't promote XS here either, as logo on software or any other means. If you dropped the [H] logo, I wouldn't object as much as I wouldn't check where the url leads me. If you made the logo just the image, and not clickable, that argument would be gone to.

It's not about the data, it's about the red H on the image :)

I think we'll be the judge of that, thanks.

I have not seen anyone talk of which stats they like better. Seems to me we are all talking about forum signature images.

That can be taken out very easily.

The reason for the "Not for use on the [H]ard|Forum." is because we know our team score. Kinda useless to post our team points on our own forum.

And I want to know why user "DocJonz" has a sig image that is 301 x 100 pixels ..
Image

I am trying to do this the right way, so this makes me a little upset

I have the [H] is my current signature now, so that will not change. I am proud of my team and what they do for this project.

If you will tell me your user name & team I can !
