Re-purposing Bitcoin ASIC miners

Post by spleenbegone »

ASIC miners are currently very cheap, and soon to be completely obsolete in bitcoin mining, leaving a large surplus that will probably make them cheaper. Has there been any consideration given to using them toward folding?

Unless they support SSE2 or OpenCL 1.1, they can't do any of F@H work. From what I have heard, they are good at hashing and are optimized for that purpose only so running F@H is highly unlikely.

P5-133XL - I was going to read about this in your link, but it seems the link fails to bring up anything ....
