I have a GTX980 running on linux.

On a core 17 WU (project 9201), i'm seeing TPF of 1 minute 39 seconds which is about 330,000 ppd.

I set the fan speed at 60% and GPU temp is 62C, with 98% gpu usage. Amazing card!

That's awesome biodoc! Very excited about this generation of GPUs, especially with GM200 products coming to market in a couple of months time :D

Someone want to buy my old 780s ? [not serious]
But the 980 looks like a great card for our purpose  cool and fast

Checking Amazon.jp it says
Usually ships within 1 to 2 months

Can I ask which driver are you using? I'm assuming you are using some 'coolbit' tweaks as well?

Got my 970 today - overclocks like crazy. 66 ns/day explicit, 280 ns/day implicit @1500Mhz. Single precision of course. Still got to get a core 17 project to see a proper PPD though.

I'm probably going to buy that same card, it looks pretty awesome. How's the folding going? What's the deal with core 17?

I have data comparing my 780Ti with the 980.

hardware:
780Ti (only gpu in system) in 2600K, PCIE2 slot, 64-bit linux mint 17 LTS, nvidia driver 343.22
980 (only gpu in system) in 3930K, PCIE2 slot, 64-bit linux mint 17 LTS, nvidia driver 343.22

Project 9201 (core 17)
780Ti@1106MHz (+100MHz OC): TPF=117 seconds, PPD=255,750
980@1352MHz (+100MHz OC): TPF=93 seconds, PPD=360,510

It's not a perfect comparison but it's the best I can do.

EDIT: I have SMP Wus running on both systems (SMP7 on the 2600K (1 free core) and SMP10 on the 3930K (2 free cores)

343.22

Yes, I'm using coolbits 12. http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?px=MTY ... =news_item

From my xorg.conf file:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Device0"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
Option "Coolbits" "12"
EndSection

So MSI 970 @1523 Mhz clock (stable): Core 0x17 v0.55, Project 9202 WU, PPD is 308146, TPF 1 mins 43 secs, 68 C, 112 Watts (well, TDP % calculated)

Not bad at all, thinking about getting a 2nd one already ;-)

Of course good ole' core 0x15 is much worse - about 70-75k PPD and the temps are more like 76C (admittedly I don't have the best airflow case), not to mention the 140 Watts.

Interesting note on the Tom's hardware review is that the OC'ed 980s are running closer to 250 Watts with a full continuous load, than the standard 150 or 165 claimed in the reference design. Anyone have power consumption values handy?

I have a Kill-a-Watt power meter at the wall on this 64-bit linux mint 17 LTS system:

Intel 3930K, Asus x79 sabertooth MB, Gigabyte GTX980 Nvidia reference design (Model #: GV-N980D5-4GD-B)

Power readings (SMP-10, project 6348, GPU core 17, project 9201)

Full load with 980@1252MHz (no overclock): TPF (1 min 38 sec), 387 watts total power
Full load with 980@1452MHz (+200 MHz overclock)): TPF (1 min 28 sec), 401 watts total power
GPU Folding on Pause (980@135 MHz): 263 watts total power
Both GPU and SMP folding on pause: 114 watts total power

980 from Idle to 1252MHz (no overclock): 124 watts
980 from Idle to 1452MHz (+200 MHz overclock): 138 watts

I'm not sure how much power the 980 is drawing at idle, but these numbers look pretty good to me.

EDIT: Changed error pointed out by Bruce. thanks.

I know this is an aside to the thread title, but it's related to the Linux nVidia driver used for the GTX 980 .....

I tested the 343.22 driver (within Ubuntu 14.04 LTS) with my GTX 560 - unfortunately its not a stable driver for this card (lots of screen flashing and flitting of window priority). Rolled back to 331.38 and its back to business as usual.

Re 10471, yes, I posted on the beta page (see above), for comparative purposes are you getting these results on fah, advanced or beta and more importantly with which version of core 18 (0.0.1, 0.0.2 or 0.0.3)? Cheers.
