Considering a GTX 770, recommendations on manufacturer?

Post by Jesse_V »

Hey guys,

I'm considering a GTX 770. I mean I'd still be up for suggestions if anyone has a better card for around the same price, but that's the card I'm looking at now. My fan on my GTX 560TI died again and I'm getting it RMAed for the third time now (thanks Gigabyte). I'll be selling it and my GTX 480. That should help make the 770 or similar cards much more affordable.

What's the general consensus on which manufacture to order from? I've been reading good things about EVGA, one my my friends suggested PNY, and I've been pleased with ASUS products so far. This fan issue might be an isolated incident, but I'll be leaning away from Gigabyte. Any recommendations and experience from the group here?

Thanks!

The 770 has just been discontinued, so should be getting cheaper.

However, I wouldn't consider anything other than nVidia Maxwell at the moment (if you're paying for your electricity) - a 750ti will be cheaper and draw 1/4 the power than a 770 whilst delivering 2/3 the points. I won't be getting my 970 and 980 until the weekend, but I'd expect 780 point levels from the 970 at 760 power draw.

With regards to fans, my best experience has been with the recent reference nVidia blower fans. They aren't the quietest nor the coolest, but they do a good enough job and seem very reliable. All of the super thin fans strapped to the face of the heat sink invariably suffer from the heat after a year.

Hope that helps

The 770 is discontinued? I missed that news. I'm not paying for my electricity directly. It looks like the 970 is around the same price but draws less power than the 770, at least according to Wikipedia. Would you recommend it over the 770 at this point?

I'd still love recommendations on manufacturer. I've asked around, and I'm leaning towards either Asus or EVGA, unless anyone has any better ideas.

Based on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eqz4tDM6Wl8, I think I've found the Asus 970 card I'm after. Thanks to the both of you for the help.
