Hi
I have a simple question. Is Geforce 970 still the best card when looking at PPD/W or is there a bether card out there?
Best PPD/W card?

Re: Best PPD/W card?
Right now I would say so, but there is a big BUT: viewtopic.php?nomobile=1&f=74&t=27208
There will be (is) a restriction in place preventing Maxwell getting Core 18 based assignment. It leaves you with core 15 and one (!) core 17 project (9201). Based on the mix of assignments the PPD could be easy under the potential of the card. If you like me run Linux you get only 9201 with the risk of zero PPD once run dry (don't know when that happen). My 970 makes nearly 270kPPD with something short above 110W. The second 970 makes 220kPPD but in a 4bit PCIe slot (not measured W)
The ball seems to be on the nV side as they have to provide some fixed drivers. Until then maybe hold back purchasing.

My (somewhat overclocked) 980 produces a bit over 400k PPD with a P9201 on Linux. I don't know how much power it draws, but it doesn't "feel" like 165W so may have a better PPD/W than the 970.ChristianVirtual wrote:My 970 makes nearly 270kPPD with something short above 110W.
Agree with the rest of your post.

Re: Best PPD/W card?
For me the main issue with the 980: it's nearly double the initial price of a 970 here where I live. With not the same increase of performance. Though the 400kPPD you get sounds great.

Re: Best PPD/W card?
It's about 60% more expensive where I am so a bit more competitive, but certainly a factor to be considered.
Re: Best PPD/W card?
Does anybody have a good reference for what changed between Maxwell1 and Maxwell2 (GM107 vs GM204)? I've never measured the Watts for my GTX750Ti but the Windows drivers worked fine with Core18 until Stanford shut me down. (I've successfully completed quite a number of 1047* and 910*/911* WUs.) If initial price is a factor, don't rule it out, especially if you have multiple slots.
Like many of you, I'm holding off investing in the GM204 until drivers and Core18 are ready for FAH.

Re: Best PPD/W card?
Sounds like lots of changes that provide better/faster image rasterization combined with relatively smaller improvements in 3D calculations. Unfortunately, they're doing more comparisons of the GM204 vs. GK104 rather than GM204 vs. GM107.

Re: Best PPD/W card?
I took the opportunity of the recent problems to put a wattmeter in the computer power feed- the card takes 130 watts for 405K PPD.billford wrote:My (somewhat overclocked) 980 produces a bit over 400k PPD with a P9201 on Linux.
