How much F@H performance gain will using a SSD offer?

I know a SSD does not directly contribute computational performance to F@H.
I just know that a SSD is much faster than a HDD, and F@H reads and writes to the disk.

My question is: How much F@H performance gain will there be if I upgrade from a HDD to SSD?

Almost zero.

Though it does depend on which project you get and how fast your CPU/GPU are, typically FAH computes for many minutes and then spends a second or so writing a checkpoint. That's the only time that could be reduced by using a SSD.

Ditto. I've never cared what disks were in FAH only machines. Sometimes they were very old HDDs, 20/40GB sometimes in years past. Enough for an OS and FAH.

Not worth it, as the others have said - use the smallest cheapest drive you can find, or if you are running Linux use a USB stick. Put your upgrade money into a better/2nd cpu/gpu.

My folders have ancient 40gb or 80gb drives and one uses a USB stick.
