what ever makes this computer run should be aloud on the forum. I had a laptop start fragmentation of my hard drives, and the ramdisk I mentioned made it crystal clear what the problem was. So guess what I still have a fragmenting hard drive.

Maybe in a new area, or failing that, in "anything goes"? However, have you tried Googling your problem? I can almost always find solutions to general computer issues that way. It sometimes requires rephrasing the queries several times and/or reading far down in the results. Speaking specifically to disk fragmenting, that's a nice thing about Windows 10 or Linux, neither of which have that problem as far as I know.

its more black boxes, usually only when computers been running for a few days, I need to upgrade the ram as well. has 8 would like 16, ram helps with points, or used to ive been here so long I forget that its probably cpu crunching on different projects that are more affected. But hey you cant live without ram forever its unhealthy for what we do.

All hard-drives gradually become fragmented as files are written/erased/rewriteen... This is a general characteristic of any storage device where the data can be rewritten in various location on the media.

A hard drive that is badly fragmented will perform somewhat slower than a hard drive that has been recently defragmented, but it will continue to work.

Any program which writes files to the drive will contribute to the gradual decline of the drive's speed. It's not specific to FAH.

Why you don't defrag Linux hard drives:

Fragmentation only hurts when there are many small fragments like 4kb-1MB because a HDD (not SSD) then needs to make many head seek jumps 10ms each to reach every fragment. Good defragmenters only defragment the small fragments and leave bigger fragments like 10MB+ alone as to transfer 100mb the disk needs upto 1 sec so 10x10ms seek time only adds up 0.1 sec = 1.1 sec total or 10% slower.

Another option to speedup HDDs is to split it into 2 partitions because the first half of HDD is faster then the second half. e.g. the HDD may get 200MB/s transfer and 10ms seek time at the beginning of the disk and only 100MB/s transfer and 20ms seek time at the end of the disk.
