RTX 2080 ti, stutters, ram issues etc...

Anyone experienced issues with their 2080 ti's performance for folding?

I read a recent thread on Geforce forums about stutters in games, and we all know about the VRAM issues of days past.
https://forums.geforce.com/default/topi ... -in-cs-go/

I'm just wondering if anyone had a bad 2080 ti card, and if bad cards are affecting folding as much as they do gaming?

I run several rtx 2080ti in the cloud and had no issues. In general game stutters do not hurt FAH.

I fold 24/7 with a GTX 2080ti and only issue is the heat, these run really hot.

I guess there will be a RTX 3080 in 2020 using 7nm which reduces the heat and power usage.

Heat won't be an issue for me.
I'll be running the card in between a blower-style GPU, and the fan from the PSU is drawing out hot air from the other side.
Both draw hot air away from the case, as well as a case fan mounted between both cards for extra air flow; as well as power limit the card to reduce heat.
Currently I'm running a regular 2080 in the spot, and it gets between 62 and 69C.
I'm expecting this card not to add too much heat as I'll be running it at very similar power settings.

Does anyone have any problems running the RTX 2080 ti in Linux?
It seems to work without drivers (at a low resolution), but as soon as the drivers are installed, the screen goes blank?

You're probably using the .run file. You MUST disable the GUI (probably lightdm) and run it from a text screen (e.g.-alt-F1). See the setup instructions elsewhere.

it is my understanding that once the drivers are correctly installed, all RTX cards are basically interchangeable, just short of hotswappable!

I think I either have a motherboard not supporting the card, or a broken card. It was a second hand from Amazon.
No worries, it's still well within 30 days return policy.
I'll try another one.
Hopefully that one will work.

Turns out I had a broken card.
Replaced the Zotac with a $200 more expensive Gigabyte model, which works fine.
The Nvidia drivers can recognize and one can swap RTX 2060, 2070, and 2080 cards in and out the system without a driver update.
On my system (running Linux), the 2080ti needed a fresh installation. The .run file needs to see a 2080 ti present at the time of initialization.
Otherwise, I guess some of the code won't be installed, and the ti will cripple the operating system (back to default svga display drivers).

Also, the card runs almost as fast at 200 Watts (~2.03 MPPD) with overclock in a PCIE 1x riser, as at 300 Watts stock in a PCIE 16x slot (2.23-2.25M PPD).
Too bad the card occupies 2,5 slots, covering a much needed PCIE 1x slot, so I had to move it in a riser, instead of in the 4x or 8x slot.
But it still works well, as it's a GEN 3 PCIE 1x slot! Card seems hardly affected by the lower PCIE speeds.
I find 200-225W is the sweet spot for this card.
Was a bit surprised, that this card can be dialed down all the way to 100W, while the other RTX cards cap off at 125W as lowest power setting.
Interesting!
