Anyone experience with folding on a Ryzen?

Post by MeeLee »

Using GPU folding, does anyone have experience with their GPUs being fed by an AMD CPU?

AMD Ryzen should have 48 available pcie Lanes, capable of 4.0 speeds, though with current technology should run at only 3.0 speeds.

But what I'm interested in, is how many full size PCIE slots can you find on a motherboard, operating at 4x or greater?
Current Intel offers are 8x,4x,4x, or triple 4x speed slots.
So if there are any affordable extended atx motherboards out there, supporting ryzen, offering pcie 8x, 8x, 8x 8x configurations, or perhaps 8x 8x 4x 4x 4x 4x configurations?
Such a board could be interesting for folding

I'm also interested in the power consumption on any AMD CPU that has more than 4, but less than 6 actual cores. So no threadrippers.
Current Intel offer hovers around 35-65W, making total board and PSU hover around 75-98 Watts over what the GPUs use.

I wanted to see if AMD did any better, being that they're made on 7-10nm. And if their pcie 4.0 capabilities, are offsetting those power savings gained from the more efficient processor?
