5 x 1070 only getting 400k ppd

Post by Bigan »

Hi,

I've setup a passkey few weeks ago. I'm done more than 600 Wus and still no more than 400k ppd

Any1 know something about it?

Get a passkey, put it on each instance of F@H

We need to see the start of a logfile from one of the machines. Assuming you're using Windows the logfile is in %APPDATA%\FAHClient. We need the first 100 lines or so.

You should see something similar to

Code: Select all

10:33:55:
10:33:55:  <!-- User Information -->
10:33:55: <passkey v='*****'/>
10:33:55: <team v='131'/>
10:33:55: <user v='HaloJones'/>
If you open Advanced Control (click on the folding icon in the system tray), then Configure, Identity. You should see a whole lot of black circles in the passkey box. Do you?

Your 5x1070 should be hitting 4m per day so you have something incorrectly setup.

Get a passkey, put it on each instance of F@H

Yes I did and say it's valid

If you open Advanced Control (click on the folding icon in the system tray), then Configure, Identity. You should see a whole lot of black circles in the passkey box. Do you?

Your 5x1070 should be hitting 4m per day so you have something incorrectly setup.
Yes Whole lot of blak circles in the passkey box

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but your processor is a 2 core processor ... NVidia Cards need a core each to function properly ... To run these five cards you will really need at least a 6core processor.

If you pause three of the slots the other two may actually get a higher total PPD and the cards wont be fighting each other and the remaining two will be properly/adequately serviced.

So I can only run 1 card per that kind of processor?

NVidia cards need to have one core/thread to service them see viewtopic.php?f=61&t=35243#p334116 :(

Your processor can run two cards.

It may be possible to get a processor upgrade ... someone in another thread (see below) was having the same issue with 4 GPU cards earlier today/yesterday ... I'll check you CPU and see what socket it uses and what upgrades might be available.

viewtopic.php?f=74&t=35221&hilit=+tesla

... and as someone has just pointed out to me I missed that you have a CPU slot  ... WIth that you can only run one GPU ... So to be honest dropping the CPU slot is pretty much a given as a single core may well not complete WUs before deadlines and a second GPU running with be far more value to the science at this time.

You also have a CPU folding slot shown as active, that further reduces the ability of the CPU to be used by the GPU folding cores to send and receive WU data with the GPU. I would recommend you set that slot to Finish, and then delete the CPU slot after the current WU is done.

With the Celeron you have two cores and can support two GPU folding slots easily. You may even be able to run a third one without too much impact on the processing of the other two. But 5 is probably too much.

People will also bring up PCIe lanes. The throughput over them under Windows can be lower. Each card will run folding best with at least a 4x PCIe slot.

So your CPU probably uses a FCLGA1151 socket so it is possible that you will be able to upgrade (if motherboard allows) to a higher core processor ... https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... nt=Desktop shows there are compatible CPUs with 6 or 8 cores that should work with that socket (motherboard dependant) but it will need someone with a more solid technical grounding than I have to confirm this.

Delete the cpu slot - it's completely pointless folding on one of those.
Delete three gpu slots leaving slots "1" and "2" and let those two run.
See how many points the Advanced Control thinks you will get.

You also have five cards running in a motherboard that cannot possibly have five full PCIE slots. My guess is that at least three are using risers off a BTC mining motherboard. You will almost certainly need to remove three of the gpus. They will fetch a decent price if you choose to sell them.

Mining uses almost zero cpu and very little data transference so that Celeron and a motherboard with risers to the gpus would have worked fine but it won't work for folding.

Finding decent motherboards that can support multiple gpus isn't easy and generally requires very expensive models that can bifurcate the PCIE lanes using all sorts of exotic hardware to connect GPUs to the NVME connectors and all sorts of oddities.

As you can see from my signature, I have six GPUs running but that's across four machines. Two are twin gpu using the minimum spec to run them - Celeron G4400, 4GB and Linux, the others are standard desktops. You can build cheap machines to run the cards if you look around on auction sites.

I've now have 1.1M PPD for 2 GPU's.

I don't know what is the best config for folding but mine are :

Power 100%
core clock +125
temperature 85
memery clock +500

I have 2 more cpu like that so I'll just do across 3 machines

still something low if only 1.1m

what is each one getting? Is it split 550k/550k?

FWIW, my 1070s average over 800K each.
