Intel 11th gen IGPs, 2Tflops fpp

Post by MeeLee »

According to the numbers, intel has managed to nearly double it's gpu processing power compared to it's 10th gen IGPs, to a whopping 2Tflops @ FP32.

It did that by increasing its gpu frequency, as well as adding more shaders (96 vs 64), while keeping the TDP low thanks to it's 10nm design.

The new cpu supposedly beats the Ryzen 4800 on every field (that is both cpu and GPU speed), except for all threads parallel processing.

And as I understand Intel iGPUs are supported now by FAH?

You misunderstand. A few are enabled in the GPUs.txt file for internal testers checking out support included in the latest OpenMM package, and therefore latent in Core_22. For F@h they are not supported yet. When and if they work out the problems encountered so far, then the Intel iGPUs may become supported for F@h.

The listing in GPUs.txt may cause problems for some regular folders who happen to have those enabled iGPUs. Workarounds have been posted. Non-internal clients will not get WUs assigned to a folding slot configured for an Intel iGPU.

Supported or not, you got to agree that >2Tflops out of an IGP is quite phenomenal!
That's the performance of a 1050/1050Ti on a ?65?W chip!

On the other hand RTX 3070 gives 20 tflops on a 220 watts chip, so 10 times speed for only 4 times watts.

Well that 65 W figure is the TDP for the whole chip, CPU and iGPU. How much of that the iGPU can use by itself at maximum performance may be published somewhere for the latest generation iGPU, but have not found it through a cursory search. Previous generation iGPUs could use about 15-25 W.

My GTX 1050ti uses 59 watts.

The 65W is just a ballpark guess, I haven't seen any numbers about it yet, but I would assume if Intel would rate the CPU at 35W, it would more than likely run at around 65W in real life.
The 2Tflop probably will be the top performing CPU, so any lower models rated at 8-10-15W CPU will probably not reach 2Tflops on the GPU.

Apparently the highest chips are rated with a 15W TDP, and use up to 28W (probably under full cpu load).
No idea how much the gpu uses on top of that.

NVIDA just obsoleted everything.
