177.35 Drivers [For GTX cards only]

Questions and comments regarding the GPU2 client running on a nVidia GPU that supports CUDA.

177.35 Drivers [For GTX cards only]

Postby FinGPU2 » Wed Jun 18, 2008 10:03 pm

For what cards are these drivers exactly for? As i dont see it supporting my 9800X2.

"no drivers compatible with your hardware?"

Maybe the Sticky should reflect this?
And maybe my machine is just jumbled up with these drivers. :)
Any help or clarification to this matter?

you need the 177.35 drivers and you need to get hold of a modified .INF file or mod the INF file yourself.

I can't yet post links as a new member but have a look around

I assumed the 177.35 drivers would work without the modded file.
As the sticky doesnt specifically say that.
Also i have seen the modded file and also replies that it doesnt with that either.

yeah, that's the official NVIDIA's policy, as 177.x are not WHQL certified for any cards except GT200 yet. I got the same reply today. Still the driver itself is the same for all cores, just the inf contains only GT200 cards.

Something tells me that if a Pande Group member is posting about it, this is more than just an .inf file problem!

Then it's curious how people are getting them to work on older hardware. (Not ME, of course)

Not only Pande Group has contacts in NVIDIA ;) I meant that it's an official policy not to publish the non-WHQL drivers as a release. NVIDIA certified the 177.35 build just for GT200, as they needed a working driver at the launch moment, but the certification takes time, so other cards will be supported officially later (just a matter of time). But more probably we'll just get a new build with all the cards supported at once.

I got 177.35 to work with my 8800GT, you just need the inf file floating around here. I cant post the full link because I have less than 10 posts but you can find it by searching the title "64 bit NV GPU2 folding *Workaround* [unsupported]"

Well, let's wait and see.

Unfortunately, when that new build comes out to support the other cards, how will you know if they simply changed the .inf, or if they actually fixed something that was broken that was messing up the FAH data?

Yes I agree with Fadamor. 9800GTX cards are not supported at all. No modded .inf file can help out with that. Like I said in my post, we will just have to wait and see.

I'm folding on my 9800GTX and have been for 2 days now using the 177.35 drivers AFTER moving up from the 174's.

Can you please let me know what you did? No matter what I do, it tells me at the beginning of the installation that my hardware is not supported. I have vista 32-bit, a 680i motherboard and a 9800gtx. Any insight you have would be helpful. I really want to continue contributing to the cause. Thanks!

Assuming you have Vista....Since you have already tried to install the drivers, I can assume they are extracted to your hard drive, to make sure though, browse to C:\NVIDIA\WinVista and see if there is a folder named "177.35" in there. If not, run the driver setup again, even when it fails from incompatible hardware, the files will stay extracted in that folder. Next go here: http://forums.nvidia.com/lofiversion/index.php?t70056.html and download the modded INF file based on your OS. Take that modded INF file and put it here: C:\NVIDIA\WinVista\177.35\English, when it asks to overwrite, click yes. Then, in the same folder, find the setup.exe file and run it, the 177.35 should now install.

Note, if the GPU client is running in the background, the drivers won't install, make sure it is closed before running setup.exe.

Hope that helps!
