Need help starting Fedora 14 with the fah service

Postby rczambrano » Wed Mar 07, 2012 9:16 am

I am fairly new to the whole linux deal so forgive my stupid questions. I am attempting to start Fedora 14 up with the fah service. I follow your guide (cut and paste even) and when I get to the line:
Code: Select all
su - -c "cp [fahdir]/folding /etc/init.d/"

I get:
Code: Select all
cp: omitting directory `/home/rczambrano/folding'

So being as I am inexperienced with this I continue just to see what else happens so I enter:
Code: Select all
su - -c "chkconfig --add folding"

Only for it to return:
Code: Select all
service folding does not support chkconfig

I don't know if it helps but I am running the x64 version and I am following the guide below:
Code: Select all
http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/cgi-bin/edit/English/LinSMPGuide

It does work in terminal just fine. No issues there. Just haven't found a way to be lazy and allow this to start up as a service. Thanks in advance for any tips.

As noted earlier in that guide, substitute the name of your fah directory in place of [fahdir]

Sorry, I thought I did sub it out when posting it here in the forums, but as it says in the second line I get: "cp: omitting directory `/home/rczambrano/folding'" (which has my fah directory). I did pay enough attention to know that I needed to substitute the [fahdir] with mine (/home/rczambrano/folding). I just can't get past the cp error. Any tips?

Sorry, I misunderstood. I saw cut and paste [fahdir] in the first quote and didn't see your home info in the 2nd quote. BRB...

Okay, when you typed in these 4 commands, what does your version look like... (minus your password) (I think the word wrap on line 3 in the install guide sometimes bites people... I've seen this happen before)

echo "# chkconfig: 345 93 14" > ./folding
echo "# description: will start FAH client as a service" >> ./folding
echo "su - $USER -c \"cd $PWD; ./fah6 -smp -verbosity 9 < /dev/null > /dev/null 2>&1 &\"" >> ./folding
chmod +x ./folding

-just a "heads-up" regarding Fedora 14: FC14 is at EOL(end-of-life) as of Dec 9, 2011. As such, you'll receive no more updates, including security updates.

Sorry, I wish it weren't so. :(

For the v6 you can use the finstall script and forget those issues.
