Trying to use 8800gtx and gtx470

Postby Wunleashed » Sun Feb 05, 2012 8:58 pm

Is there any way that I can set up my computer to run both my 470 and my 8800gtx, I normally use the 8800 for Physx which is why it's even in there, but it does a good job at folding too, so I figured might as well not waste that GPU time either. Thanks for any help!

You'll need a GPU2 client for the 8800 with -forcegpu nvidia_g80 and -gpu X flags (X is the CUDA device number of your 8800 which you'll get with CUDA-Z for instance) and a GPU3 client for the 470 with -forcegpu nvidia_fermi and -GPU Y flags (Y is the CUDA device number of the 470).

I also suggest that you use console clients, that would be easier to tweak for this situation ...

Edit: I think that two GPU3 clients won't work in this configuration, and I don't know about the v7 client.

Hello Wunleashed, welcome to the forum.

The V7 beta client has progressed well enough that I recommended it for all Windows users, even those with multiple GPUs. It does a good job of autodetecting 2 different GPUs, and the V7 installer will setup a client for each one.

I've done the above using two GPU3 console clients folding on a 220 and a 450 in the same system. The key is the -forcegpu flag you mentioned, otherwise the second client started with seems to detect the GPU incorrectly. But I don't understand why you said two GPU3 clients won't work for the original posters setup. Does the GPU3 client not work correctly on an 8800 or something?

I think that a long time ago, some people reported that two fahcore_15 for different GPU family would not work well together. But it might have changed since then ...
