Can´t set opencl gpu tester for use more than 512MB RAM on my 5870. Is it normal?

Edit: S.O is Windows 7 64bits

Yes, that's a limitation of the OpenCL runtime.

I ran this once back when it was first released on my 5870, and noticed that the clocks would stay at idle speeds during the test. I'll give it another go and see if I can't get the clocks to run at full speed this time.

Things yet to materialize.

I'm planning to do the data analysis at the start of next week, so a few more days of data would be great.

Hi,

Sorry about the delay. Thanks to everyone for testing. There were some interesting results in there. One thing we learned is that the Random Blocks test may not be entirely reliable on ATI (may show false positives). I'm in communication with our folks on the inside, and I'll let you know if I get any solid resolution on it.

I am curious as to why the memory can or could make much difference. From what I have seen on ATI/Nvidia
very little memory is use. And now that almost all card are 1 gig plus, even less so.

I don't think the memory is "making much difference" in the performance of the different cards.
I think the test was directed toward the integrity of the results; the accuracy of the memory.
Specifically, if the memtest tool could accurately predict if a given donors card (through OC or age or what have you) would generate bad results.

I think what he has reported is that the current memtest does not do this accurately on AMD cards.

Oh course this is just my reading, I'm sure ihaque can elaborate if I misunderstand.

That's mostly right, with one exception. I think most of the tests are OK on ATI cards - I am only suspicious of the random blocks test. It might be OK, but it might also be throwing false positives, which we're checking out.

I ran the test on two of my 5770 and with one of the cards there were several errors.
This was all at stock clock speeds.

I'd RMA a card that gets errors.
