As far as I know, until Stanford releases an updated version of the GPU2 client, you do need to rename them.

I'm going to try these now. :)

Still VPU Recovers all over the place. Only improvement here is that Cat 9.3's VPU Recovery works like a charm now, last times my screen just dropped out (XP SP3)

Trying the CAL-switchtrick now.

Edit:

Well... this is getting strange. The latest 6.23 with Cat 9.3 goes like: amdcalrt.dll cannot be found. It won't even start!

Check the folder where you placed the 6.23 .exe. Do you see amdcalrt.dll and amdcalcl.dll in there?

If not, do a search of your C drive for aticalrt.dll and aticalcl.dll.
Copy these two into the folder where the 6.23 .exe resides.
RENAME the two to amdcalrt.dll and amdcalcl.dll.

Since 9.2, the driver team changed from amd.... .dll to ati..... .dll, and the client needs to be updated to handle the name change.

If you would read the forum, you would know that.

The new Cal/Brook does not work with XP correctly. They will have to patch it.

Question for mhouston:
What did you guys change to bring about these claimed increases? Can you share other details please? :)

There will be an updated core needed that is still in beta testing to see increases. There were changes to CAL that improve our latency in scheduling the hardware from the CPU when some optional flags are enabled. Once that is happy in the wild, we will work on some other ease of use improvements, and then go back to kernel tuning.

Core 12?

And by optional flags, are you referring to optional flags that the new core will use?

Lastly, will Flush_Interval set to 256 impact this at all?

Greetings all!

9.3 gave my 4850 on Vista 64 another 350 - 700 ppd it looks like so far. I never could get folding to work on the Win7 box but is now working just fine on a 2600XT at about 715 ppd on 4752.

Cheers!

So upgrading to 9.3 won't do didly squat until the new core version?

I'll stick with 8.12 which runs perfectly stable for me until then and not take the risk.

Does this 9.3 release brings the support of running only one client for the 4870X2 (which uses both cores) ?
Currently I'm running one F@H client / core.
I am at work now so I can't really test it (till this evening that is :-) ).

Already tried the CAL-replacing trick, but now everytime the core runs into ''a serious error and needs to be closed''.

Well guys, I have had it with this unstable client. Within a very short period I am moving to Windows Vista 32-bit. Really, I DO hope that I can leave this mess behind.

Jejking, all you have to do is follow the guides, and read the forums. I have no problems running one or dual clients on
XP, Vista, 7.
For XP - 8.12 is the most stable, 9.3 will not work as yet, though I use 9.2 without problem.
For Vista/7 9.3 is doing fine.

i have renamed the new ATI.dll into AMD.dll but since im?m using this new one i'm getting alwas an unstable machine so Vista 64 is writing "application has to be closed.."

after restarting the client 2d/3d switch does not work porberly, and i have to reactivate Overdrive (for 2d/3d Funktion)
as i remember this "unstable machine" was first seen on my machine after renaming these CAL files!!
i'm now testing the old CAL files (catalyst9.1??) with new Catalyst 9.3
greetings klefreak
i don't know why my machine is getting instable now ;(

EDIT: 19.03.2009
i'm also getting some Driver hast to restart (VPU recover issues) errors when starting the client or some minutes after starting?? (unreproducible)
--> this all happens since update to 9.3 and or using the new CAL files
--> when using old CAL (9.1) with Catalyst 9.3 2d/3d funktion doesn't work but folding ist stable again ;(
--> changes in FLUSH interval doesn't effect the results (stable/nonstable); (now using 384 instead of 512)

i hope there's a solution in sight !

my system

Asus P5e (x38)
C2D E6850 @3,6ghz
4gb ddr800 cl4
Vista HP 64bit sp1

all is running fine except with new cal files ;(
