I see you launched it with verbose 9 but it doesn't seem to be there, check your client.cfg file. Also I'm not sure fi the lifeline or version flags are valid? (I don't run the gpu so I honestly don't know)

I always see "Warning: Ignoring unknown arg" from my clients... I don't think that's the problem. It only appears in stderr, so you don't see it in the log.

I also got the same error this morning. Using GPU3 on a Nvidia 8800 GTS 384MB. I also followed the headless installation guide. Fedora 13. CudaToolkit 3.0 and nvidia 256.53 driver.

Request for WU:

I have an old Pentium3 CPU which can only support an ATI GPGPU card (P3 -> SSE; ATI require SSE, nVidia require SSE2). I have an ATI Radeon HD4350, PCI (not PCIe). It would be nice to see if I could get ATI GPGPU cards working under Wine on Linux, as I see ATI hardware is supported under Windows ( http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?p=158849 - Item 3 "Supported Hardware") for GPGPU.

As I only have nVidia cards on my WinXP box and no other Windows OS in sight, would anyone be good enough to let me have a copy of a WU for an ATI_R700 class GPGPU? TIA.

Edit:Ah yeah... I should have perhaps pointed out: the Pentium3 is running xubuntu/linux 10.10

EDIT by Mod: Since the shell would have to support different drivers/APIs, something to support ATI in WINE is really a separate discussion. . . and, in fact, there's another topic covering that discussion. viewtopic.php?f=54&t=7800

I know im kind of late to the party, but thanks to Sidicas and Shelnutt for their work on the wrapper.

I am using Shelnutt's wrapper on Centos 5 (w/cudatoolkit 3.0 and Nvidia Driver 260.19.36) and although i have my normal problem with hres timers being screwed up (and the wrapper using 100% cpu time), i am making around 10000-11000ppd on my Palit GTX460 Sonic Platinum. I used taskset to dump fahgpu to core 4 of my Q9300, so it doesnt interfere with day to day ops, which is fine for what i do.

The only worry i have is how hot it runs. Currently 64C on stock cooler at 54% fan speed (and a bit noisy). If i leave it to auto handle the fan speed it hits 74C very quickly, which is unacceptable. Obviously i need to explore a 3rd party cooling solution (another topic maybe).

Anyway, thanks guys. Using the GPU3 guides was a breeze.

PS. Still cant get it to run on Windows XP. Was easier to get it running on Linux. :P

GPUs run hot, that's normal...
The Fermi chips can take up to 100C although I always ran mine no higher than 80C and even switched to water cooling my 470s... They overclock real well once you get the temps out of the way..

guys as a complete noob to linux
i managed to get my 560Ti recognised under ubuntu 10.10
i have the fahgpu client installed but get some errors - im hoping someone can help with them

i think it relates to the line failed cuda version ... am i correct in thinking i have to use the 3.0 version not the 2.2

"CUDA version is insufficient" seems to imply you need to upgrade the NV software. I don't know how to tell if that's a Linux issue or a Windows issue.

Are you suggesting to upgrade the Nvidia drivers?
I believe i have the latest linux drivers - and the only ones that support my 560Ti

ok i have upgraded to 3.0

would i need to re-install the nvidia drivers after ive upgraded the cuda version from 2.2 - 3.0?

I am still trying to get this to work. I followed shellnut2's excellent instructions here: http://linuxfah.info/index.php?title=Main_Page.

I am running PCLinuxOS with a 32-bit kernel (i686) optimized for an AMD64 CPU. My CPU has two cores. I am currently running 2 separate fah6 clients. Neither client has any memory limits set. I followed shellnut2's instructions, step by step, to the letter. I downloaded and installed the RedHat CUDA toolkit from here: http://developer.download.nvidia.com/compute/cuda/3_0/toolkit/cudatoolkit_3.0_linux_32_rhel5.3.run. The 2 Windows dll files were downloaded to my ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32 directory. All symbolic links were created in that directory. ldconfig gave no errors or file not found messages. The ldd commands executed properly. I'm using an nVidia GeForce 8500 GT card. The nVidia driver is version 270.41.19. Specs are shown below.

I created a config file by running wine Folding@home-Win32-GPU.exe -forcegpu nvidia_g80 -configonly. I did not set any CPU limit. I started the run with nice -n 19 wine Folding@home-Win32-GPU.exe -forcegpu nvidia_g80. I successfully received a FahCore_15 unit for processing. However, I received runtime errors. I believe the pertinent one is: "Posq: cudaMalloc in CUDAStream::Allocate failed CUDA version is insufficient for CUDART version". I cannot figure out if this is a memory allocation error, or if the CUDA drivers installed are the wrong version. Using the distro's package manager, I have nvidia-cuda driver version 173.14.30, as well as the same version number XvMC development library and OpenGL headers. The run is shown below.

I'm a whole lot closer than I've ever been, but I need to know if my distro's CUDA driver is the wrong version, or if I have a memory allocation error. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I believe I've found the problem, but I want to be sure before proceeding. My distro provides cuda driver version 173.14.30. According to nVidia's website here: http://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-toolkit-30-downloads#Linux, I need version 195.36.15 (CUDA 3.0). If this assumption is correct, I'll need to ask the distro developers to add it to the repo, as I tried to install it at runlevel 3, but got installation errors. But, I also need to know if doing this will replace my video display driver, as there was a display driver with the same version number.

You do need to use v3.0 of the CUDA toolkit and a more recent driver. I'm running 260.19.36 with no problems.

Thanks, hyperlife. I have followed the wiki instructions to the letter. I kept log files of every step. I installed CUDA driver version 270.41.19. That's the same version number as the nVidia display driver that's installed. The 32-bit CUDA 3.0 toolkit is installed. However, I still get the same error:

I do not want to cast aspersions toward your hardware, but I can't remember any one folding on a card with only 16 cores?
even if it would start it would take for-ever to run.
That being said, I looked up the 8500 GT & it shows a Compute capability of 1.1; which is the same base level as the 9800GTX+
the 9800 has more cores ( 128 ) I've gotten the 9800's to run under wine using the 2.0 cuda tool-kit & the 2.0 version of the wrapper.
with Linux driver 195.17 This combination of tool-kit wrapper & driver works on linux boxes with 2 9800GTX+'s & a box with a 9800GTX+ paired with a GTX275 ( same driver )

Thanks, dschief. I'm not offended. But I do want to ask:

(1) Are you saying I shouldn't try with this video card? It is CUDA capable.

EDIT: I found the GPU2 page here: http://gpu3.hostei.com/index.php/Main_Page, which links a second page here: http://gpu3.hostei.com/index.php/GPU2. (2) When you say "Linux driver 195.17", is that the CUDA driver version? The oldest RPM I can find for my distro is 195.36.15.

(3) Would running that older CUDA version affect the video driver? Are they interdependent?
