Is ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32 in your LD_LIBRARY_PATH? You seem to have the *.dll files because you can ldd them in the ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32 directory.

Ok i got it running :D
I just copied the cudart32_30_14.dll and cufft32_30_14.dll symlinks from ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32 to my ~/fah4 dir and it fired right up.

@art_l_j_PlanetAMD64 How can i check the LD_LIBRARY_PATH of WINE?

Wine should be passed the Linux environment variables, so in a Linux terminal window, you can type the command echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH to see the value. Note that the value may initially be blank (ie no value), here is an example of how to add or create the LD_LIBRARY_PATH:
Code: Select all
art@art-Debian-02:~$ echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH

art@art-Debian-02:~$ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
art@art-Debian-02:~$ echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib:
art@art-Debian-02:~$

Here is the Wine User Guide information on environment variables:
http://www.winehq.org/docs/wineusr-guide/environment-variables
Your program might require some environment variable to be set properly in order to run successfully. In this case you need to set this environment variable in the Linux shell, since Wine will pass on the entire shell environment variable settings to the Windows environment variable space.

Please note that I am assuming the library loader used by Wine uses the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable. If it uses some other environment variable, that could also be set in the Linux environment, and it would be passed on to Wine.

Here is the Wine User Guide information on the Libraries Settings:
http://www.winehq.org/docs/wineusr-guide/config-wine-main#AEN554

I just thought about it some more, and it would not be correct for Wine to use the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable, so please ignore what I said about it above. LD_LIBRARY_PATH is used by ld or ld-linux to load the libraries needed by a program in the Linux environment, and it would be wrong to try to make changes to it for Wine (which does not use it anyway).

It finished with no errors, backing folding gpu wu agian.
I need to set-up one more box but the whole "6.41 fiascal" got me wondering if I should just wait and redownload it.
or just don't worry about?

I need to set-up one more box but the whole "6.41 fiascal" got me wondering if I should just wait and redownload it.
or just don't worry about?

I would say don't worry about it.

You are lucky to have a copy of the v6.41 GPU console client, as it currently cannot be downloaded:
Cannot download v6.41 GPU console client

So keep the copy of v6.41 that you have, don't lose it!

Now that I've got an excellent cooling option for my laptop, I figured I'd try to fire up my GPU as well.
I've got a Nvidia GT 240m (too old to work with FahCore 17) and am running Linux Mint 14, which is based on Ubuntu 12.10. I'm using nvidia-current, and I have the latest version of GCC and Wine.

I'm confused by the instructions on how to set up v6 GPU in Linux. I looked at linuxfah.info, and one of the first steps links to a CUDA Toolkit download page on the Nvidia website, but there's only one for Ubuntu 9.04. Does that one work? Can someone point me to some clear instructions or identify them which have worked for them in Ubuntu? I want to make sure that I'm following up-to-date procedures.

Hi Jesse,

Yes, from memory that is the correct version of the toolkit (note: use 32-bit even on 64-bit systems). It is important to use the kit which was used for the build of the wrappers, newer versions won't work.

Enjoy yourself, the GPU on Linux installation is not easy and sometimes painful, but rewarding when it all works!

Shout here or in the install guide thread if you need more help (we all do at times).

Thanks davidcoton. I'm trying to follow the instructions on http://linuxfah.info/. That page directed me to https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-toolkit-30-downloads where I downloaded the 32-bit CUDA Toolkit for Ubuntu Linux 9.04. I marked it as executable, then tried to run it with "./cudatoolkit_3.0_linux_32_ubuntu9.04.run" but after "Uncompressing NVIDIA CUDA..............." it closed with "./cudatoolkit_3.0_linux_32_ubuntu9.04.run: 1: eval: ./install-linux.pl: Permission denied". I reran it with sudo and got the same message. I'm kind of annoyed that I can't even get past step 1! Any ideas?

Code: Select all
jesse@jesse-N61Vn ~/Downloads/linuxfah $ chmod a+x cudatoolkit_3.0_linux_32_ubuntu9.04.run
jesse@jesse-N61Vn ~/Downloads/linuxfah $ sudo ./cudatoolkit_3.0_linux_32_ubuntu9.04.run
Verifying archive integrity... All good.

Hey Jesse, I tried this last night trying to get v7 to work and eventually gave up. I believe I received an error trying to execute that file, but I don't recall what I did (probably sudo). I clicked on the link that read "Ubuntu" rather than the one that read "http://developer.nvidia.com/object/cuda_3_0_downloads.html". It started downloading a file immediately rather than having me jump to an NVIDIA page to do it. Maybe there is a difference between the files?

I don't think there's a difference. The one on linuxfah.info is probably just for convenience. I get the same error.
If it matters, I'm running the 3.7.0-7-generic kernel.

Hi Jesse,

I've always followed Hyperlife's guidehttp://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=6793#p67208, it is important to do everything in order and correctly (I know. I've still got the scars.) It's worth taking the time to skim the whole thread (it's long); there's a lot of little bits that may affect you. Fermi does work well with v6.41, but not (afaik) Kepler. Once you've got a stable system, try not to upgrade anything!

BTW, I don't think v7 will work for Linux GPU folding -- the wrappers and the versions of each part the the process are tailored for v6. Some work was rumoured on later versions of the various components (prerequisite for v7) but I've not seen any recent posts.

There are rumours of native Linux GPU folding, but the core17 work seems to be for OpenCL, which seems to perform poorly with the current NVidia drivers. I'm not holding my breath, but will stick with v6 and a Fermi 550 Ti (up to 15K ppd) until the work runs out. I just hope by then there is a better alternative than the current options -- or maybe I'll have to invest in an ATI card when funds permit.

I tried with a fresh installation of Mint 14 that I had on a flashdrive. This time the toolkit was able to install. I don't know if there was something with my regular system, or if there was something incompatible with the 3.7 kernel series that's fine with 3.5.*
I'll fiddle with the installation on my HDD and see if I can get it to work. I'm not sure what's up with it, and the smart folks at IRC's #linuxmint-help had a bunch of ideas but none of them worked.

This is on my laptop, so there's not really a chance of changing out the hardware. I haven't read anything indicating that V7 works, and besides my laptop's GPU is too old for the new developments, so v6 is all I can run.

My kernel is 3.5.*, so you might well be on to something there. Sorry I can't help further on that.

The comment about v7 was for compdewd, who seemed to be trying to get v7 on Linux for his GPU. Your post was quite clear that you only need v6, I was just trying to avoid a confusing loose end on the thread.

Enjoy!
