When I first set up the GPU client under Wine, it seemed to work pretty well, a few WUs were completed, however it started to be that in between WUs there would be no server available to download from. Now it's like that constantly. It's been a while since I've completed a WU. I've tried restarting the client, re-installing, but still it won't download anything.

The client is designed to automatically "try again in a bit." As WUs that have been completed are returned, new WUs are created -- but the total number in circulation doesn't change.

When somebody dumps a WU, it will not be assigned to anyone else until it expires. As projects that have been running on a particular hardware platform approach completion, they are often replaced by projects for newer hardware. Of course if a key server is having trouble, there are less WUs available.

The G80 generation of GPUs is getting pretty long-in-the-tooth. That may mean that there will gradually be more frequent times when no WUs are available to be assigned.

FahCore_11 for AMD/ATI has been deprecated although it's still being used by the G80 series. Stanford is putting more and more of their efforts into creating newer cores.

I tried -forcegpu nvidia_fermi and it also didn't download. Also, I'm not using AMD/ATI, just an Intel CPU and Nvidia GPU.

So does this mean that cores for the v6 GPU client are simply becoming scarce, and there's nothing wrong with my computer?

I am using V7.2.9 and am getting a steady supply of FahCore_11 WUs on my GTX 260. Since you are using WINE, have you tried deleting the queue.dat file and the work folder and see what happens?

In your log, you have the following:
Gpu type=2 species=11.
Which is correct for a Non-Fermi GPU. However, in your profile, you have mentioned GTX 675M so am not sure what GPU you are using.

The 675M is for my laptop. What I'm trying to get to work is my XPS desktop. It's the one with two GeForce GTS 240 GPUs. It's running headless Debian with Wine 1.0.1.

See viewtopic.php?f=18&t=23520&start=15#p236737 for a possible fix, as PantherX also suggested. (Though the symptoms are different).

I fixed my system by deleting unitinfo.txt and queue.dat -- workfolder was already empty.

I tried that. It seems to have fixed the problem, BUT a new, very similar problem is occuring:
Code: Select all
alex@debian:~/.FAHClient-Win32-GPU$ ./run.sh

use of this software requires that you have read and accepted this agreement.

There seem to have been a bunch of server issues recently -- specifically see http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=23759&p=238810#p238810
If it doesn't recover soon, follow the "issues with specific servers" threads and report there if you have additional information.

It can be really difficult to get things working when there is more than one layer of problem. Especially as I think deleting the files is a workaround rather than a cure -- no-one seems to have suggested what causes the problem in the files that stops the downloads in the first place. I'm just curious, I suppose, and concerned that we're masking something else that needs fixing. A second, simultaneous problem at Stanford (if that's what is happening) makes diagnosis almost impossible.
