glxgears still running when you start FAH? i guess thats a bug then but harmless most likely
one thing left to try is CAL version 1.2.1 http://ati.amd.com/technology/streamcom ... vious.html
but its not easy to install see http://forums.amd.com/devforum/messagev ... adid=99599

I'm also up for this. I've just emigrated to linux, and the only thing bothering me is not being able to use this 4870 I've got.

My new Asus 4870X2 Tri-Fan just arrived (the first one was DOA :( ). I'll try to have a closer look at what it might take to get this working when I have it bedded in. :)

This is where it would be really useful to have extra debug output or the source code. The error thrown here is the pinnacle of unhelpfulness. Some info on the details of the exception and a stacktrace would be really useful.

Yeah but isn't the source code closed :(

Has anyone tried this with the new Catalyst driver? I'm an Nvidia guy right now but if ATI cards got better at folding I'd like to be able to use them on Linux... If I had any ATI hardware I'd test this some myself, but I don't.

Yeah, I've been trying to get some symbols out of the GPU core, but it's been stripped, and some of the strings that look like CAL calls don't seem to exist in the implemented APIs (according to the CAL headers at least), so they must be internal. I had a quick look over the ones that are in the headers, and I couldn't spot any problems. Having some extra debug output in the core to see what is actually failing would be very useful, but I doubt we're going to get a debug core to play with any time soon. :(

I heard somewhere that there is at least one AMD developer that is assisting in getting a Linux GPU client ported to Linux. I can't remember where I read it, though, or I'd post it here.
