error after ubuntu 10.04 update

It looks like your libc might have been upgraded at least partially. Maybe libnss_files.so.2 is linked to an old library. Can you post a listing of /lib (ls -al)? Also try running ldconfig.

so heres the deal on alternate clients:

1) fah.staic fails with the same error as the bigadv unit
2) fah_alt works but doesn't do bigadv units

so how can i still fold bigadv units with the fah_alt client?? it keeps downloading project 2662.

It may be that fah_alt does not support the bigadv flag. I am not entirely sure on that though.

I built and tested out glibc-2.11.1. The fah6 client runs without issues with this libc on my system. I wonder if there is some kind of issue with the way the glibc was built with the beta Ubuntu or perhaps a patch was installed that broke something.

Sorry jimerickson , I saw Linux and forgot about the -bigadv bit , but thanks for checking them , now we know a little more than we did.
Might be easiest to go back to ubuntu 9.x. I'm running Debian ... Etch , Lenny , Squeeze ... It's all good

Same issue occurred to me last night after it uploaded the WU. Running ubuntu 10.04 RC. Quick search makes me believe its something stanford/3rd party person will have to fix with the binary because its linked to old libc6.

Tear's solution isn't a permanent or proper fix though. It's installing an entire extra LibC on the system to patch over coding flaws in the FAH client.

The problem is that FAH linked to a private symbol in LibC that user apps aren't supposed to touch, and LibC changed that symbol in a new version. Eventually, all linux distros will be adopting this new LibC and FAH won't work on anything, The only solution being to install a whole new toolchain on the system to accommodate one application. It really should be fixed upstream.

Ubuntu 10.04 comes with glibc 2.11.1 which is the latest stable version. I built glibc 2.11.1 for several of my Slackware64 systems a while back and do not have this library issue that 10.04 Ubuntu has. What I ended up doing with 10.04 is I overwrote the default glibc build with my build and the folding client works fine now in Ubuntu. I am not quite sure what the difference is between the builds though. It may be a difference in configuration options or a patch that was applied.
