No bigadv at the moment?

Postby Biffa » Tue Jan 18, 2011 6:36 pm

Anyone else getting A3's instead of bigadv despite not changing anything?

Using standard switches: -smp x -bigadv -verbosity 9

I got one last night, but the next one was a P6900. A couple people have mentioned getting a non -bigadv yesterday too.

When in doubt then goto http://fah-web.stanford.edu/serverstat.html. It does seems to a fairly low level of -bigadv on both servers and they are mostly not sendning.

No settings need to change for that to happen. This is normal when there are no -bigadv are available. It fails over to normal SMP WUs.

Just a reminder, -bigadv is a client preference, to request that type of work unit, not a guarantee the client will always get them. ;)

Postby robj20 » Wed Jan 19, 2011 4:55 pm

I have been doing the normal -smp stuff for a while but wanted to try a -bigadv unit so went through -configonly and under flags added -smp -bigadv.
It has just started a new unit but its a normal one, where have i gone wrong?

If you can find a system with similar specifications in this thread (viewtopic.php?f=55&t=14757), you will get a good idea of what to expect from your system.

Yup, I realise the implications limitations of running the bigadv beta :) Just wanted to be sure it wasnt something I had done (thanks to the other poster who provided the link to the queues, forgot about that!)

So does that mean that there's only 91 Big Advanced units left?

When a WU is returned, it generates a new one. You have to add 91 to the total of all WUs from that server that are currently being processed by someone. Whenever Gen 0 is returned, Gen 1 is created. When Gen 1 is returned, Gen 2 is created. ... From the data we can see, there's no way to tell when a project will end. I suppose that there's a server setting for MaxGen which will cause it to stop generating Gen (N+1) from Gen (N) but it's highly unlikely that we've reached that point.

When a project is started, there is a specific number of Run-Clone combinations that are distributed. A shortage of WUs means that the total number of people trying to run a specific project is greater than the total number of Run-Clone's needed.
