new bigadv/bigbeta projects

Postby kasson » Fri Jul 27, 2012 4:07 am

We are releasing several new bigadv and bigbeta projects:

Project 6905: base points 18165, preferred deadline 4 days, final deadline 10 days, k-factor 38.05
Project 6906: base points 25233, preferred deadline 4.5 days, final deadline 12 days, k-factor 37.31
Project 8102: base points 22607, preferred deadline 2.4 days, final deadline 4 days, k-factor 49.43

These should complete our move to the points guidelines we adopted around the beginning of this calendar year. We do continue to periodically assess bigadv performance and update our points guidelines and benchmarking procedures. We may perform some minor tweaking, but we expect the next assessment to take place around the end of this calendar year.

Thanks for participating in the bigadv program and for folding!

That does seem a little worrisome - with the shortened deadlines those projects are going to be more difficult for 12-core systems (since they at least appear to be relabeled 6903/6904), but that's the server they are on now.

No new projects should belong to BA-12 according to the last PG announcement. All new projects would be at the BA16 level.

I'm just looking at the project summary page, which lists the new projects on server 130.237.232.237, and the server status page, which lists "min SMP = 12" for that server.

SMP projects can have any number of cores, whether they happen to be called Big or not. There is no configuration setting for BA-8/BA-12/BA-16...etc. That's something that the Donors invented.

If you're asking whether {all/no/some} 12 core machines can make the deadline the Pande Group takes no position on that question. Apparently the server will not assign them to machines reporting less than 12 cores, no matter what flags you set.

Some prior postings by Pande Group members left the implication that there can be additional settings on the servers beyond those that show in the server status pages. So, the server is set to a minimum of 12, but perhaps the server will only assign these new WU's to machines that meet the new 16 core minimum announced earlier this year.

I have not seen those implications made, so a link would be nice to see.

130.237.232.237

min smp = - (unlisted) smp =12 is speculation.
6906 final deadline = 12

I'm not sure if this is in response to my post, but if you will look at
http://fah-web.stanford.edu/pybeta/serverstat.html
for 130.237.232.237
it currently says min smp = 16 (consistent with Kasson's announcement today), and at the time of my previous post it said min smp = 12.

Strange, they both appear to be autogenerated, so either they are drawing their info from different places or using different algorithms to come up with the displayed data.

Hey, has anyone gotten one of these new ones yet? I strangely got a couple of 6901s earlier this week, but it's been 8101s otherwise. Do I need to do anything to get to the new servers?
